Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

NCT Fail - Wheel Caps

    Hi Everyone.

My car has just failed the NCT test. We bought it in England as we were living there the past 5 years, we have had our yearly MOT and its always passed, as we have moved back home we had it re-registered and have just done our NCT. It failed saying Wheel caps not removed and one dip light was not working.

I did ask them what Wheel caps were and I got the impression it was the hubcaps can someone confirm if this is right? I know this is probably a completely stupid question to you all but I am genuinely asking. I have tried googling it but have not had any luck so am ashamedly asking here. We never had to remove any part of our wheels in the UK.

Are wheel caps and hubcaps the same thing??

    Thanks for any help
    Em

Anything that covers the wheelnuts would be considered a wheelcap.
Weird name I know! I have never heard it anywhere than a NCT station.

    Yes, wheel cap, hubcaps.

Need to be removed for tester to verify all wheel nuts are present and correct.

Thank you diesel bug, I thought it had to be but was doubting myself and as we are retesting on Sunday i was slightly panicked.....Wish to god they had just said hubcaps :)

hubcap is actually technically a wrong description, which is generally used to decribe a mainly decoaative cap that pretties up the wheel and hides the nuts. A real hubcap is on the hub rather than the wheel , it keeps the muck out of the grease in the hub mainly

My car failed for the same reason. I only thought of the wheel nut cover when I got to the test centre and when I tried to remove the covers I found that the "locknuts" we're seized ( the disadvantage of never getting a puncture )I let the car in to the test knowing it would fail, and afterwards got a mate in a garage to remove the locknuts, two of which had to be broken off. I went back to the test centre and parked outside, the tester came out, saw all 16 wheel nuts were tightly in place and gave me my NCT cert. :D
    Good luck tomorrow btw Berdav.
