Got an aldi PC in 2010 with3 year warranty. It will do nothing without not responding' message. tried everything. So am thinking returning to them. Would they take it less theh hard drive. Would they take it. There is personal stuff on it nothing dodgy but we know you cannot really delete anything and do not want financial data floating around any repair centre

It is a md8341 13 530 procesor so it should be very fast but is so annoying. Nver see anything only the circle thing turning while it hangs, will put my fist through it one of these dat

    No virus/checked disk/memory etc

Your system is fubar! I doubt they would take it back. If there's a fault they will look at it and take appropriate action.

You would have to return it plus the hard disk, no way around it. You could dban the hard disk, securely wiping it before returning it though. Just be sure to re install Windows 7 after doing so.
The freezing could well be an issue with something you have installed though, which anti virus program are you using and how many do you have installed? You should only ever have one av program installed

He/she needs to either have that system checked or send the machine back to the store. Perhaps a system restore might help.

It sounds very like a software issue, stating it is "fubar" suggests the machine is faulty, which is possibly not the case :)

Nick, I said the system is fubar. System = OS or operating system.

Antway, the system restore is the way forward. It will not invalidate the guarantee. If that fails then a backup of the important work files and a factory restore.

As the one with a problem I think the above comment will not help you much!

Backup and wipe using DBAN you'll be fine
If they go to the trouble needed to get information back after that they deserve to have your information

If its under warrenty and hasn't been altered in Aby way that would void the warranty they'll have to replace or fix it..

If you return it to the shop they will probably send it for repair, as supermarkets do not have in house techs. They will refuse to accept the machine unless you sign a disclaimer, saying you have backed up your data. They will NEVER take responsibilty for your info. The repair workshop will plug it in and if it boots as described will wipe clean and reinstall OS. If this fixes the issue they will charge you for their time and the transport as software issues are not covered by any warranty.
What you need is a local tech that will pop in and have a look. They might even tell you how it happened and how to stop it happening again.
From your description of your problem it could be a hardware issue (ie covered by warrantee) but I'd bet big money it's software.
When you get this sorted consider backing up important info. Not backing up your personal information is the number one mistake computer user everywhere make. If your personal stuff was backed up you could wipe/reinstall yourself for free!
As for techs having a look through your data it is technically possible but from my years of fixing PC's in workshops I can say that all I ever wanted was to get the machine "off the bench" ie fixed, as soon as possible. The only exception to this I ever saw was a time a very angry and aggressive customer shouted and screamed at me because his 9 month old machine was crashing a lot. It was riddled with virus and filled with porn :) We gave him the machine back unfixed and charged him an hours labour for plugging it in. Our only female tech gave it back to him with a severe tounge-lashing as we watched and smiled. We did tell him to wipe the porn from the machine and return it to us for a chargeable reinstall.

Before you do anything else, you should back up any important information onto an external drive. This includes licence keys for purchased software etc, documents, pictures emails. Everything.

If the support company feel there is a software problem, they're going to wipe it anyway. Better you back up your data, and reinstall the operating system. It's very easy, and there are hundreds of guides on how to do this.

If the problem is still occuring afterwards, or occurs during the installation, then it's likely you have a software problem.

If you send it off with a software problem, it'll be wiped and sent back as no fault found. Could be a charge also, so do yourself a favour and try the reinstall. Let us know if you need help with it.

I have alos noticed the fan is a lot quieter. Would a software issue cause the fan to be noisy?

If something was causing the processor or other devices to heat up more the fan would get louder alright. Could be something like that, hope it lasts working well now :)
