You would need to replace the bios/cmos battery

Its a battery that looks like a watch battery on the motherboard.

What is the Acer model number? Some batteries in laptops are easier than others to replace, if you don't have any experience working with computers then it is probably a job for a computer repair place to do

I would of thought setting the clock in the bios would of fixed it without going near the coms battery.

If cmos settings keep resetting, the battery isn't providing power to store the settings hence replacing battery is needed
