    Besides the mart on Monday is there anybody else locally selling point of lay pullets? Especially Light Sussex or Buff Orpington?:D Anybody have a number for that guy at Dungarvan Mart that sells the chooks?

    Just looked at the Leader. I don't see an advert for the guy at the mart. Hes been going there for donkeys years though.

    Not really a good time to be buying chickens, they don't lay much during the winter so you'd normally start off with new stock in the spring rather than spending money feeding non layers over winter.

    The winter will also kill off a lot of poor or deased older birds so its safer to buy in the spring. A bird that looks great after a moult at an autum sale might be dead before it lays in the spring.
