A bigger pile of piss I have not seen, not in quite a while anyway. It just wasn't funny in my opinion.

I managed to stay until the end. Just about. Others who were at the same screening as me couldn't. And I don't blame them.

How on earth did this get 83% on Rotten tomatoes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,381 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

That was just a fun movie.

    Conifrmed 2 things for me
Emma Watson is hot and Michael Cera is a d!ck when coked up
    :)

And don't anyone saw that ending coming.

I'm not a fan of Franco's comedy roles but it says a lot about his acting ability that I was
upset when he threw away his salvation.he managed to still garner some sympathy from me with his death even though his characters in these type of roles annoy me.

I'll say it again, anyone who watched the trailer for the film will be disappointed, if you go in reasonably blind you will really like it.

Brilliant film, one of the best comedies I've seen in years. I generally hate all comedies, hangover etc. I just thought it was low-brow done really well.

Also I want to buy Jay's hoodie

This bit is just magic. Don't watch if you haven't seen

Its the argument between Franco and McBride about the porno mag

    I liked
the liitle nod to Freaks & Geeks with the painting in Franco's house.

I loved this, thought it was hilarious, best comedy in ages for me. I'm genuinely surprised that anybody who had seen the cast or trailer would be disappointed by it.

agree completely, not much imagination, all the usual weed, homophobe, friendship jokes we have seen so many times before, was hoping it would be better.

There are some really good one liners in this, could have been a little shorter, but definitely watchable.

Way too long, if it had been 90 mins or less it would have been much funnier, but it falls into the same pitfalls as the Judd Apatow camp where they don't know when to edit down scenes that go nowhere. There were some absolutely hilarious jokes in it though, the arguments between Franco and McBride about the porno mag had the entire audience in tears laughing. Depending on your sense of humour it's either an overindulgent backslapping session or a hilarious pisstake of a bunch of people who know they make too much money for what they do. Jay Baruchel is really likeable in it and some of the cameos were great. Michael Cera being the standout.

I thought it dragged a bit towards the end, but overall I thought it was hilarious. It's a certain brand of humour, yes, and it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Danny McBride completely stole the show, some great lines. I thought Jonah Hill was great too, with all the fake niceness, and Michael Cera's cameo is brilliant. It does have a lot of low-brow humour (a lot of talk of cum and what have you), but I don't think there's anything wrong with that from time to time. It doesn't take itself seriously at all, everyone takes the piss out of themselves and each other, and it's just all in good fun. It looked like a bunch of friends just having a bit of craic in a movie. There's great chemistry between them all, it's very easy to believe that they all actually do get on very well in reality. I loved
the homemade sequel to Pineapple Express!

I would bear in mind that it's not going to be the kind of thing that everyone finds funny. If you like Superbad, Knocked Up, etc., it's kind of up that street. If you're not into those kind of buddy comedies, then you're probably not going to enjoy it. It's got a specific audience, I think, but I like those kinds of movies, so I thought it was great fun.

    The part where Cera
blows a load of coke into McLovin's face asking him how it tastes
nearly made me choke on a mouthful of drink

Me and the misses found this hilarious.

We are big fans of these guys work, so to see them in one big mashup was brilliant. Like with any comedy, it's highly opinionated. Two guys here at my desk hate it, I thought it was one of the funniest films I've seen in ten years.

Then again I never found Will Farrell stuff overly funny, bar The Other guys. A defo DVD purchase when it comes out

The weird thing about movies like this is, people SHOULD already know if they're going to hate it before going to see it. So why they go see it and then b*tch about it afterwards is beyond me,

I hate the Scary Movie franchise, so I don't go see them. What I wouldn't do is go to see it (for some reason) and then complain about the low-brow humour!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 338 ✭✭MightyMighty737

    Thought it was hilarious myself.

"Sinkhole de mayo" and "Hello god, it's me, Jonah Hill.....from Moneyball" had me cracking up!

Agreed, certain people know that they dont like the actors/ other movies they have been in, then go see it and are outraged by how much they hated it.

"It's me Jonah Hill...America's sweetheart" The constant pisstaking of each others movies was funny. "Rogen where was that acting ability in Green Hornet?!" Danny McBride stole the show

I found the actors' previous works a decent laugh in places but this was muck. I didn't go to see this on purpose so I could bitch about it on the internet.

    It was just so weak.

Don't know, you are not giving any reasons for not liking it, just calling it crap. Fair enough if that's your opinion but the lack of any reference to the actual film from you in both your comments would lead me to believer that you were perhaps either not giving it a chance or paying full attention.

Believe what you want. But I think a saying that I DID NOT FIND IT FUNNY is quite sufficient as a reason for not liking it.

It's not like it's a deep character study with a complicated plot. It's a simple "comedy" and by definition it should be funny. I didn't think it was. That's all I have to say about it I'm afraid. Sorry I can't give you anymore, you know, since I personally owe you an explanation and all.

Can't believe this forum has got even more pretensious such that people are looking for an in-depth critique of a film such as this muck.

Sorry if it's a bit too pretentious to ask for a reason why you didn't find it funny but since you seem to have such a stick up your ass about the movie I'll leave it.

As far as I'm concerned I was in a Canadian cinema and not one person seemed to dislike it. I've been told by Irish friends they found it funny but not spectacular, someone calling it muck and me questioning why and being called pretentious is very annoying and your attitude is totally dickish. You are on a discussion board in case you haven't realised.

i have a pain in my ribs from laughing, danny mcbride and jonah hill were show stealers! Enjoyed the whole movie right down to Seth walking through the Airport getting shouted at!

    Hilarious Film!

Thought this was class! Like others have said, I thought Danny McBride and Jonah Hill stole the show. I especially enjoyed Hills parts, McBride calling him
a cnut, and his reaction afterwards, his "exorcism" and him running around possessed!

And him acting all camp with the gun had me in stitches!

This was probably the funniest film I've seen in a good while, much better than Hangover III and the like, but it wasn't outrageously funny.

Loved all the prolonged scenes like the one with the gun and the porn mag, but at times the movie was quite boring and seemed to fall flat and drag on in the third act. A solid 6/10 is probably a fair rating.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Went with a friend yesterday, and there was only one other person in the entire theatre. I thought that might spoil the atmosphere, as comedies are usually more fun with crowded theatres, but I enjoyed the movie too much to care

Only two regrets, number one being that there wasn't more Michael Cera. I smiled with joy at everything he did, including his
    Final Destination-style impalement
. I also thought that the ending was a bit predictable in regards to
the sacrifices of Franco and Rogen, including Franco's almost immediate rejection
, which was a shame because the rest of the movie had me guessing what would happen next

I'm interested to see The World's End next week, another comedy-sci-fi-apocalypse, and compare notes

This film has it's moments, no doubt about it. But it is far too indulgent, alot of scenes should have been reigned in. Whole film could have done with being at least half an hour shorter, would have helped with better pacing.

yeah thats a problem with a lot of films these days, back in the 90s most comedies were 90 minutes long, which was perfect, i dont think ive seen that many comedies that were about 2 hours long that didnt suffer from some non essential parts just to pad out the film for no reason at all,

Just watched this. Surprisingly very good.

Hollywood really needs to figure out their third acts in comedies but still, that was better than the last two Hangovers put together

It was really really really bad. The main character( the guy that doesn't like LA) is a dose altogether. I don't understand how they can cast someone who has no charisma or comic timing. it's like he is reading his lines from cue cards

Yeah, that's been a problem for Rogen and Goldberg the whole way through, even in Superbad. You get the idea they don't hear the word "no" very often. Also my god but they need to learn how to write an ending that isn't completely weird, this upped the ante from Pineapple Express.

I really enjoyed this film though, even on second and third viewings I find it very very funny.

Really enjoyed this. Laughed a lot more than I did at The World's End, which I didn't think would happen before both came out. A few bits definitely went on too long, and it did go a bit unnecessarily crazy at the end, but overall I thought it was great.

Jonah Hill stole the show for me. His bits with
    the gun and the exorcism
were hilarious. Michael Cera was great too, almost would have preferred him in the house with them instead of Danny McBride
(though still have McBride show up as the cannibal leader at the end)
    .

I thought the McBride and Franco realtionship was the best thing about a very limited/repetitive movie.

In anticipation of The Interview (which I have not yet seen) I watched This is the End for the first time. Yes, the premise was indulgent, but I felt it better to make a film like this - with several stars playing themselves - at this point in their career, rather than ten years down the line, when it would seem more like a desperate bid to rekindle failing livelihoods

Danny McBride was the funniest thing about it. His (in all probability improvised) argument with James Franco over masturbation etiquette was hilarious.
