Carer's Allowance after death?

Posting this on behalf of a good friend.

Her husband applied for Carer's Allowance last year to be a carer for her.
There was a long waiting time and he had never been told he'd been approved. He carried on caring for her, all the while waiting to be approved for Carer's Allowance, but he died last week.

What I'm wondering is...would my friend be entitled to claim any backdated payments?

I understand her husband had never been approved but IF he had been, I'm sure he would have been given backdated payments?

What happens now that he has died? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
As you can understand this is a difficult time for his wife and she's not looking to claim anything that isn't hers/her husband's. I told her I would try and find out what the situation is.

    Thank you.

First off she needs to contact the carers section and stop the claim.Usually arrears are payed up to the date the claim is stopped(if it is approved) but as the rules for carers states that you must be in a position to provide care, this includes the health of the carer. This may be a question the dept will ask.

Its probably in the lap of the gods as to what happens.
