year of manufacture or year of registration

Just been looking at motorhomes for sale and it struck me that an imported vehicle may be advertised as a '92 model. Sure enough the reg number is '92 but when a camper is imported, is the number given as the year of importation or the year of manufacture?

I am thinking that a camper with a reg of '92 might well be manufactured a (good) few years earlier.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks folks.

It's the year of manufacture. A 92 is actually a 92 regardless of when it was imported.

    Thanks very much, Swanner.

You will often find that a camper was manufactured more than a year earlier than registration as it has sat in a dealers lot etc, but as previous post states date of registration always remains the same whether imported or not
