Huawei E220 Compatibility Issue Samsung Q45

Tried plugging our o2 huawei e220 modem into a samsung Q45 netbook and although the software installs correctly, the device is not being picked up by the laptop. I get a message in the o2 broadband screen wireless device is not available. i updated the firmware but no luck......any ideas???
