As well as liking Oasis and Ted, fans of this show also consider Dan Brown's 'The Da Vinci Code' the greatest literary work ever put to print.

I have to admit, I read it in a day and enjoyed it. Even if it was complete bobbins. I'm all for uncomplicated, silly entertainment. I love the In Betweeners and Seth Rogen films (as well as Voltaire and Werner Herzog :D)

Just that Brendan's schtick does not elicit laughs on my part. I'm sure he's a lovely fella. I briefly met him years back and he seemed to be alright in person but I just can't appreciate his particular brand of comedy.

The InBetweeners is an odd one. Sometimes it's funny, but again, it seems to try too hard with the vulgarity. It doesn't seem realistic, even if it is teenage lads. It's OTT. Every second skit/joke is a crude sexual reference. After a while it's just far too predictable, and not funny.

It apparently drew in 11 million viewers in the UK over Christmas so it must be doing something right.

    This too shall pass.

if you knew any teenagers you'd know they're holding back a bit on the show

Because of mother having this on anytime I go home, I've gotten to like it inspite of myself! :D I thought the Xmas episodes were poor enough - the bit in the house was funny enough but I didn't enjoy the Nativity Play scenes much I have to say. Most of my friends love it, some hate it... but sure that's the way it goes.

It's quite amazing, the Xmas Eve episode was the most watched show on UK tv over Xmas. (11.68million)
And the second part was the 4th most watched show. (10.72million)

Its funny for people who are at least 40 or 50 years behind the times and haven't noticed the way that TV comedy has progressed into the likes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Peep Show and The Office and away from unoriginal 19th century music hall and fart jokes.
You mean people who just find things funny because they find them funny - rather than liking something because they think it represents modern sophistication, and therefore reflects on their 'I'm with it' snobbishness? I won't slag off your choices - and I'll explain why in a moment - but personally I find the shows that you mentioned totally unfunny and boring (notice I said 'personally'). That's not slagging them off, but is a personal observation. If you like them then great.

Humour effects human emotion, and therefore is a subjective thing - the key word here is subjectivity. Ever heard of it? Comedy isn't defined by rules, otherwise comedians and comedy would follow those rules and be rather similar. I'm amazed by the arrogance displayed by some of the posters on here. Who are you to say what defines good comedy? So do you actually think that because you don't find something funny then that's it, it's not funny?? Admit it, people like you like to feel they have the superior opinion and think they're right no matter what - insulting and mocking anyone who doesn't fall into your remit and agree with your carved-in-stone opinion. I have no problem that you and others don't find Mrs. Brown's Boys funny. What I have a problem with is your (and theirs) listen-to-me-aren't-I-superior attitude. Don't tell me, anyone who disagrees with your choice of music, films, favourite food, etc, is wrong??? Still not getting the concept of subjectivity???? No, well I don't expect you are.

The best thing about Mrs. Brown's boys - apart from me finding it hilarious - is that is succeeds in getting up the noses of the holier-than-thou, po-faced pricks who pontificate over what makes good comedy and then state that Mrs. Brown's Boys isn't it. Yeah, I'm sure that Brendan O'Carroll is a broken man when he reads such comments - in between having a successful, award-winning TV show, sell-out stage show, and being the author of several books. Yeah right - just like it'll bother me when I'm howling with laughter. Still, I can at least say it won't be out of any sense of superiority - though given the limited scope of the arrogant, hating dullards on here, it wouldn't be a hard thing.

You're being too conservative here, you're holding back....speak your mind!

You are right...my opinion is superior to yours. And you are also right, it does get up my nose, because I am sure genuine, original writing talent and good hardworking actors and actresses (who have at least committed to professionalism) are being left on the shelf so that a public (which obviously knows no better and should never be programmed for) can have cheap, cheap stolen laughs.
It's the lowest of the lowest common denominator television.
    That's also a personal observation.
