Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    ...........................................epl-manchester-unted-vs-newcastle-united.jpg.........................................

Expect some changes for this game.

Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez, Chris Smalling and Darren Fletcher will be amongst those hoping to be involved, having been benched or overlooked against Swansea.Wayne Rooney hopes to put his poor showing against Swansea behind him.

Rafael needs to shrug off the hamstring injury that kept him out of the Liberty Stadium encounter, but he could come back into contention for a full-back berth.

Gabriel Obertan will be hoping to figure at some stage for Newcastle against his former employers.

Cheik Tiote must serve a one-match ban after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against QPR, while Hatem Ben Arfa (hamstring), Steven Taylor (hamstring), Yohan Cabaye (groin) and Ryan Taylor (knee) all remain out of action.

Tough match, don't want to see Giggs or Scholes in the starting line up.

What's the story with Kagawa? I thought he was "nearing" a return a couple of weeks ago?

Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini (c), Santon; Anita, Perch, Bigirimana; Cisse, Ba, Marveaux

Newcastle side according to a local journo.

I'd fancy ourselves against that midfield big time but with Ba and Cisse anything can happen.

That midfield just oozes pace and creativity...

[edit] Seriously, what's up with Kagawa, he's been out for aaages

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,229 ✭✭✭✭J. Marston

More dropped points with that line-up, lovely...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 850 ✭✭✭SoulTrader

Looks like Giggs will be on the wing, if it's 442? Still, not confident with both him and Scholes starting.

What's up with Rafael? I presume he's injured?

Pleased to see RVP and Hernandez start together.

cant believe that midfield, truly wonder about saf selections at times the last 2 season's

    Rooney dropped or injured?

Better not be a repeat of losing to Blackburn

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,161 ✭✭✭BetterCallSaul

United fans moaning about a midfield of Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, and Scholes when Newcastle's entire first choice midfield is out (Jonas, Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote).

Should be a very comfortable win for United tbh.

Rooney suggested that he would be playing in the rags but he also disagrees with SAF over rvp nearly getting killed. Also remember what happened last Christmas.

I wish Nani was less of a dick, could have done with him on the wing today!

This is going to be like the Norwich game. Newcastle won't have to be brilliant or defend like heroes, if they put a decent shift in then they'll get something. What makes it frustrating is that it's so bloody obvious.

I thought RVP and Chica combined well towards the end of the game on Sunday so I think they will do well today, both grabbing a goal.

Scholes and Giggs in midfield is SAF's present to Pardew surely?

Welbeck and Young also not on the bench? What is going on?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,341 ✭✭✭✭Chucky the tree

Interesting to see how Van Persie handles his first time back on the pitch after his near death experience the last time.

Welbeck has really fallen out of favour recently, wonder what he did. Can't be due to bad form because Valencia is still starting and he's been dire.

so much negativity here..not the ideal line-up but its a busy period..hopefully will have enough to win, wont be pretty admittedly...

Newcastle: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Santon, Anita, Perch, Bigirimana, Cissé, Ba, Marveaux. Subs: Elliot, Shola Ameobi, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Ferguson, Tavernier, Campbell.

    Nani is injured.

Subs: Lindegaard, Vidic, Cleverley, Fletcher, Buttner, Wootton, Tunnicliffe

Joke of a line up, where's Powell?

In fairness to Giggs, he was one of the better players in the last game. More worried about Valencia tbh....

    Nani is injured.

Subs: Lindegaard, Vidic, Cleverley, Fletcher, Buttner, Wootton, Tunnicliffe

I agree. It won't be easy against Ba and Cisse, but Newcastle are without Tiote, Cabaye, Taylor and Ben Arfa so this team should have enough to win today.

What is up with Kagawa, what is his injury?
    Is Nani really injured?
Could Fletcher have started today instead of Scholes?
    Where is Powell?
3 centre halves on the bench?
No Rooney, Welbeck or Young in the squad is strange... especially with Valencia constantly delaying his crosses and refusing to use his left foot (which I thought he started to do at the start of the season).

If Carrick, RVP and Scholes are on song today we'll win today by 2 goals or possibly more.

    Please win Manchester United.

    That is all.

Not a lot of strength in depth on that Manchester United bench is there? I am hearing that Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young both picked up problems during training yesterday, while Danny Welbeck is ill. Proof that training on Christmas Day does not work...

    From the BBC

4-0 United. Very strange bench, not to worried about the line up.

Scholes, Giggs and Carrick in a midfield together can make any opposition look good.
