    Hi,
We've just bought a new house with an alarm already installed, however the auctioneer does not have the code, we tried the usual engineers codes but doesn't appear to work. Also the company's name that fitted it appear to be gone out of business. Is there anyway of overriding the code to reset it?? It's a secure watch hkc alarm.
    Thanks!

You could try defaulting the panel back to factory settings, but you will need to program everything up again.

To do this power down the system completely, Remove the mains power & disconnect the battery. Remove the link marked LK1 & with that removed power back up the system. Providing the panel is not engineer locked you will be prompted to default at the keypad.
If that fails the system is engineer locked & you will need an engineer to call to reset the system.

Thanks a million, will try this tomorrow. Will this set the alarm off?? I unscrewed the 'fuse' panel and this set the alarm off already! There was tamper wire on it so a friend disconnected the power I think! On the keypad panel the red orange and green lights are now on.

If it shows an orange light on the keypad its likely the power was disconnected and the battery is powering the unit. The battery will die. Best turn power back on as keypad will beeps indicating a power failure.

Open the panel and the keypad will sound. The alarm won't sound but you will be prompted to enter your code.
When you power down the system completely (mains and battery) the alarm will sound.

It is the standard for an alarm to shut off in 15 minutes.

By resetting the system you will need to setup the system but if it generally won't take long.

If you have a ladder, go up to the alarm bellbox and open it, disconnect the cables to the bell from the panel inside the bellbox, leaving all other cables connected. This way the alarm won't sound while your working on the alarm. When your finished connect them back.

Might seem very complicated but once the bellbox is disconnected there's not much to worry about.

Does this mean someone can break into your home and reset the code or simply shut off the alarm? :S

Only if the installer has left the system unlocked. Some do but don't inform the customer of the risk here.

ok so i got onto he guys that look after the a;arm in my place of work. they told me to remove the battery from the alarms fuse box on the landing and also look for a little black thing that contained the alarms fuse and pull it out and hey presto the power was switched back on and no alarm going off. they said they will come out and give the alarm a service, fit a new battery and reset the alarm code for around €150.
