Hate to say I told you so...............

but i've been saying it for a while now. JDS is and was never as good as people imagined he was and he was always going to get dominated by Cain when they fought again.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 11,139 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr. Manager

Totally did not see that coming. Complete and utter domination.

That's disappointing. JDS seemed taken by surprise by the pace Velasquez set. JDS will be back though. Two last fights were very good and saved an otherwise poor undercard.

Looking forward now to UFC 156, great card.

Cain puts a MASSIVE beating on Overeem! Worse than the one we just saw IMO!

F**kin assholes booing again, man fought his heart out.Man as a fan of Dos Santos I'm speechless after that fight devastated even
Felt like I was watching this (minus the rocky offence)

Delighted for Cain. This is a bit from a piece I wrote for a betting site
JDS is a top class HW striker, but there's no doubt in my mind that he had a considerable amount of luck on his side when he knocked out Velasquez to take the HW belt...
... I'm surprised how quickly people, fans and the bookies, forgot about Cain. Thats a huge mistake. His return to the octagon, when he destroyed Bigfoot Silva, should have reminded everyone. But apparently it hasn't!

Really don't understand JDS. He kept his hands low the entire fight and never circled away for Cain, he just kept backing up making it very easy for Cain to shoot. Plus he gassed inside the first round.

But Cain is an animal full stop.

I think JDS was in cuckoo land once he got caught early in the 1st round with that right. All game plan goes out the window when that happens

Happy to see Cain win it but I really like JDS too and was really disappointed to hear the clowns in the audience boo him after essentially getting the **** kicked out of him for 25 mins relentlessly

I will say though, I would not like to be JDS next opponent. He's going to have a point to prove and a few people are going to get damaged along the way while he attempts to get back up for the #1 contender spot

In the meantime, Cain VS Overeem please!:D

Why would they boo him to begin with? JDS took a pounding for 25 minutes and they still do that to him. What a bunch of c**ts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

Anyone who boo'd JDS are scum pure and simple, the man showed tremendous heart to stay in that fight, that was a one sided beat down, Cain imposed his gameplan and JDS didn't. I was rooting for Cain all along, JDS has an iron chin, the amount of shots he took is incredible. These guys are probably gonna fight at least 3/4 times in their career, imo the 2 premier heavyweights around.

Such a bunch of tossers. If anything JDS should be applauded. There are few very men that could show the heart he did in those 5 rounds to somehow keep going. Not one person in that crowd has that kind of inner strength. JDS got badly beaten but I couldn't believe how he never gave up. Even a lot of elite fighters would have thrown in the towel I reckon.

The scariest thing about Velasquez is his cardio in my opinion. He can just keep pushing the pace and not even look remotely tired. Frightening

I dunno man. Cain is the most determined I've ever seen, I predicted junior in the first fight as he was a very hungry young man and Cain definately seemed more relaxed.

Cain at his best is unstoppable, he will look to avoid juniors lethal hands with long range takedowns, I reckon junior will stuff them in the first 2 rounds and gas. Cain will continue an onslaught of takedowns and ground and pound as he is the smaller man, he has the advantage in the cardio stakes. If junior wants to win this, he will have to knock Cain out in the first 2 rounds.

Damn, should've put a bet down.

Jaysus, four bets I had last night and lost them all.

Had singles on junior and Joe lauzon, and two accumulators. Would have won a decent 5 man one with Cain if Michael Johnson wasn't so ****

Last two fights were epic though.

Best Cardio I've ever seen in any HW MMA fight... can't understand that work rate... just can't.

Almost flawless performance by Cain if I was knit picking I'd ask him why he got a little predictable which puts him at risk of being timed by a one puncher like JDS... needs to have 2 or 3 different approaches/softeners in his head to open his takedown work and he should use his inside leg kicks a bit more because they have REAL sting in them. I think his strongest weapon last night was his Randy style doity boxing in the clinch and from all sorts of positions.... constantly finding the side of the head with hammer fists and eventually wearing his guy down and taking his balance and heart away... at an even higher level than Randy perfected in his time. That's how you beat a one puncher like JDS you get in his grill and dirty box the fuk out of him and take his gas away. Really wanted JDS to win because I love his attitude to life and what he does but the truer warrior heart won last night IMO you could just see it in Cain's eyes - pure belief that he was the stronger guy! and he was... possibly is in general.... 1/1... needs a rubber match to end the debate. I hope Overeems smerk gradually faded off his stupid face as he watched Cain raise his arms with the belt on as fresh as the first round with barely a mark on his face. He's gona school Overeem !! Delighted for Cain.

Thought Junior was able to negate or get up straight away from Cain's takedowns, even when he was out on his feet.

That's something he can take heart from.

It's good that Cain won it sets things up nicely for the trilogy. (I f hate the term "rubber match")

Miller Lauzon was a war. It has to be the bloodiest fight in the UFC so far. The only ones that come close that I can think of are Cain/Bigfoot, JDS/Carwin, Sherk/Florian and Penn/Sanchez.

I thought this was a terrible prediction, but now I can't believe how accurate it was. Well played.

JDS needs to lose that 10lbs of muscle in gained for the fight, the only explanation as to why he gassed so easily, more focus on cardio as opposed to anaerobic.

Overeem is in trouble, if he gets past Bigfoot.

True, but Frankie Edgar was destroyed in the 1st round, twice, against Gray Maynard and bounced back in both fights, sure in the second fight he KO'd him! I believe the extra weight hindered him, the same when Frank Mir put on extra muscle in his second fight with Brock Lesnar, he felt it was detrimental with regards to his cardio, now, I'm not taking anything away Cain, he's a freaking animal, but it just didn't look the JDS we all know in there on Saturday night.

In fairness, you can't take Frankie Edgar and use him as a comparison to JDS in a case like this! Every fighter is different.

JDS weighed 239 for that fight, that's also what he weighed the first time they met.

JDS looked sluggish this time. I'm surprised he had no weight change from the first fight. Was he sick or something? I can understand Cain doing well and dominating with wrestling but I can't understand JDS doing that badly with his boxing. He had no power in his shots.

Ya I thought he still did alright with the takedown defense after the 1st round,I thought Cain would be taking him down with ease after that

Really? He said he put on 4 /12 kilos in muscle for the fight, and he did look more ripped.

Either way, his cardio was terrible, he's one of my favourite fighters, I'm sure he'll bounce back.

It was a beating.... and it looked bad for JDS because of the simple fact that a Cain beating looks worse than a JDS beating. Cain will smash you round for 25mins but JDS will put you to sleep in one instant in the 2nd minute of the fight. So you come off lookin worse after a Cain hiding.

JDS is not an 'all round' great fighter... he is the most devastating KO artist in HW history IMO and this makes him MORE dangerous on average than Cain so the trilogy is set up beautifully. Cain cannot learn to punch like JDS and JDS cannot ever expect to develop the cardio and bullish fence 'wrestle and strike' capability of Cain Valasquez - never going to happen.

Dodging a KO strike from JDS when you have only one game plan 'to push forward relentlessly' is always going to be more dangerous for Cain. JDS will watch the vid and see how that punch took his heart away and would have for anyone on the planet. He should do what he needs to to gain even more speed... maybe lose a few lbs muscle and stop worrying about fighting a Goliath like Overeem which I think explains why JDS has gotten visibly more muscular. He should accept that fact that he will never beat Cain style for style and should continue to focus on what he excels at.... punching people in the face really hard once and then finishing them off.

Could never call the 3rd fight. There is nothing to predict the outcome of that fight. Can't wait for it whenever it happens and their interim fights between here and then will just make it more and more tasty over the next year.

Valasquez is the baddest man alive on the planet right now in my book.... simple as that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,455 ✭✭✭weemcd

Cain is the real deal, this is what I have always believed, the first fight was a highly visible off night due to injury and a lot of people wrote him off. I believe he is favourite for the inevitable 3rd fight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

I think bookies will put Cain fav yes... but I always favor the guy with the most dangerous weapon - Great KO ability like JDS has beats Cardio 7/10 times in my book so gut says JDS within 2 but only to have an opinion I don't think it's remotely predictable for any logical reasons. I also don't go at all with any argument about quick KO's do not sort out who the superior fighter is. I think a quick KO upside the head like JDS did is worth at least as much as a 5 round war IF there's a pattern of KO's there as there is with JDS. If anything a quick full KO (boom! you're out) to me sorts out who is the better fighter as opposed to judges deciding it.... to me it denotes a more dangerous fighter as I think JDS still is.
