Got a sizable telescope from Santa :D anyone got any advice on where's good to setup for a night stargazing (near Donegal town or Letterkenny)? or is there a local club for people who're interested in astronomy ?

apparently lyit has an astronomy society (dont know if its open to the general public though)

i've only ever stuck the telescope on my patio (2 miles north of donegal town) although the light pollution is much worse over the last couple of years still get a good view of the main planets (saturns rings, jupiters spot )

thats with a 5 inch reflector

dont forget the boards astronomy forum http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=267

Seems my usual luck is holding up... when I get into something (shares/investments/housing market etc) it just goes to sh*t...

We can look forward to overcast skies from now until doomsday... or until I sell the telescope

I remember seeing a lightmap of Ireland recently, and west Donegal is one of the best places for avoiding light pollution. Just need to get myself a car and a telescope and I'll be out that way most clear nights :D
