My compaq pressario CQ60 made a really loud alarm type sound out of nowhere. I shutdown but when it starts up the cursor and keyboard won't work. Stumped here. Any ideas folks?

Did you spill anything on it?

Does sound like some liquid spilled on the keyboard, if that is the case a new keyboard is probably needed, although more than the keyboard (motherboard) could also have been damaged

Try plugging in a ps2 keyboard mouse maybe?

Edit: never mind, thought it was a desktop

    No nothing at all.

Wouldn't know where to start refitting the hard drive is it difficult to do?

for the touchpad, try to check if its off or on... if there is an orange light above the touchpad then its off, toggle the switch on that light to turn it to blue
    1. remove the battery
    2. disconnect the power adapter
    3. with no power supply at all, press and hold the power button for 1 min.. make sure it will be 1 min
try to go to safe mode by continually pressing F8 when booting (press F8 when you see hp invent screen), then you'll be directed to advance boot options... choose last known good config.. then it will boot to last known good settings

    try these
