Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I can't believe you gave up reading after only 6 posts (or have already forgotten by page two).

    :o

The X mas festivities must be getting the better of me.

What is up with this forums obsession with Yaya Toure? Even if he is good which he is, he doesn't look great, he plays really labored on the ball and tends to be sloppy, even when his passes are successful. He's not your typical crisp passing top center midfielder. His strength is physical, not as a footballer.

    haha

    Souness.

Was a near perfect midfielder when in his pomp.

Could attack, could defend, fantastic stamina, good pace, could tackle a little bit, good in the air, and driven.

Not forgetting dirty - 11 Sounesses in your team? - you'd have at least 1 of them sent off every game.

Same with Keane for that matter - personally I'd have 11 Vieiras ;)

Keane XI vs Vieira XI, with the winner meeting the Souness XI. :D

Might even try to sneak Yosser Hughes into the Souness XI as a ringer. :P

I'd probably go with Niall Quinn. If there was a penalty against him he'd have a chance.

Paolo Maldini, two footed, quick, comfortable on the ball, good passer, good crosser, good in the air, good tackler and good positional sense.

    /thread.

Innocent question: if all-around players are very competent at both attacking and defending then why are players such as Pele, Ronaldo (both), Messi, Ronaldinho, Maradona etc. touted as the best?

    Goals win games.

hardly. amazingly enough he averaged 1 tackle every 2 games.

    On topic: Gennaro Gattuso

that says more about the rest of his game than his ability to tackle

So, you wouldn't have him in your all time best 11?

Because, if you wouldn't, you are an idiot.

i dont have an all time best 11. i dont know every footballer who has played the game to be able to compare contrast and then make a selection. All I meant was is its strange, positioning aside, for a defender to make 1 tackle every 2 games Thats all.

Maybe his positional sense was good enough that he didn't have to tackle as much as other defenders seeing as he made so many interceptions?

Have you watched Maldini play much?

You seem to be missing the point massively.

Busquets would be the best player at Barca to create an XI out of.
