Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I know most are bored to death with the fluoride scenario and all that can be said, has been said. This video came to my attention and I thought I'd share it with you all. It's just information, I'm not trying to prove a point. It's not a conspiracy theory.

Just imagine if what she's saying is correct..

    No. Just no.

In fairness, 41% of teenagers having dental fluorosis in the US is pretty ****ing scary...

Bear in mind before reading my post that I'm a science student, I look at scientific information pretty much all day every day and I'm well used to discarding rubbish, but I do think there's a lot to be said in favour of those who don't like fluoride being added to their water.

I think fluoridation is a really tricky issue with valid arguments for and against. As a child, I used to drink the tap water at home (we had a filter and it tasted class) a lot. I also brushed my teeth once a day. My front teeth have some signs of fluorosis (white mottling.) On the other hand, I've also never had a filling in my life - although I wonder if the same thing could've been achieved by just not drinking carbonated drinks (which I drink very little of.)

I'm really not too bothered about the minor white mottling of my teeth, because I don't really need perfect teeth (not a model or anything), but I do wonder what if it WAS very desirable for me to have perfect, well-coloured teeth? Also, if the excess fluoride caused the mottling, what other undesirable, but minor things might it have done that I cannot see? Might it have impaired my intellect to some slight degree?

I know that one case (mine) means diddley squat in scientific terms, but it has made me wary. It's an area I'd like to see renewed, well-informed debate, and I think more credible research into the effects of regular fluoride intake needs to be done. The research has shown very clearly that fluoride in the water definitely does improve dental health - but convincing evidence that fluoride-water doesn't have any other ill-effects beyond increase the risk for mild fluorosis of the teeth seems scarce (feel free to enlighten me on this one, if you're aware of some studies/reviews convincingly showing that low-level fluorosis of water has no discernible other health effects - I haven't bothered dredging through all the papers of the 1950's.)

There's also the morally troubling fact that we are unwillingly being administered a drug - which it is, whether you like it or not, with it's therapeutic intent to improve dental hygiene. I ponder why improving the dental hygiene of the masses is so desirable compared to other medical ideals - why don't we have a saturated fat limit on foods, an alcohol-content limit on alcohol? Because that would too "nanny-state" or eliminate ones freedom to choose? Surely this is the same thing - with the difference being that most people probably won't notice it.

I can't say I'm too happy about the fluoridation of water. I know that people who would be less well off benefit dentally, but surely our goal as a society should be to educate people so they can look after themselves. If people still don't want to brush their teeth, then they know the consequences. But why do I have to swallow the fluoride too?

Why then do you suspect most of Europe has stopped Fluoridating their water ? After introducing fluoridating ?

    Have they gone backwards ??

    EDIT:

Sorry, good post. I jumped in to fast.
