them 50 points on tipperary hurling is very good and wow never realised half of what kelly has achieved.some career he has had.where do ye reckon he would feature in a list of tipperarys greatest players surely top 3?

I would reckon he has a very strong case to have been our greatest ever. He marked and roasted the very best in the game in his time, the likes of Wayne Sherlock, Mick Kavanagh and Philly Larkin and kept Tipperary in several games that without him we would have been beaten out the gate otherwise.

i can remember one such game from 2004 where Waterford looked set to hammer us and he single handedly took the game to them. He scored 2-8 of our 3-12 tally that day. We lost by a point that day but in all fairness it could and possibly should have been more

I think it's a case of Cummins being that good that no one else can over take him (or there's a massive generational deficit in talent). Journalist Brian O' Donnell's blog (here: http://blueblood.ie/index.php/fifty-fabulous-facts-you-didnt-know-about-the-tipperary-hurlers/) has fifty facts on the Tipp hurlers and this is one. Seeing off ten players is a good achievement to be fair (even if one of them is a better forward, Eoin Kelly [providing it's him]):

"Since making his debut for Tipperary in 1995 Brendan Cummins has seen off ten pretenders to the number one jersey – Jody Grace (1995), Kevin O’Sullivan (1996-97), Justin Cottrell (1997, 2002-04), Fergal Horgan (1998), Kevin O’Brien (1999), Damien Young (2000, 2005-06), Eoin Kelly (2000), Darragh Rabbitte (2001), Gerry Kennedy (2007-08) & Darren Gleeson (2009-2012)."

Thats one pretender im glad he seen off :P

ah ya sum legend.playing minor 4 years in a row, scoring all of mullinahones scores from the quarters onto winning a county championship, playing minors, under 21's and seniors in the one season, second only to henry in all time scoring list, captaining tipp to and all ireland and being the first south man to do it.what a career stuff of dreams and hes lived it.:)

I'm not going against Gleeson. I think he's a fine choice to replace Cummins.

This stat (among many others) is damned impressive: "Eoin Kelly is only the second player ever (after Limerick’s Pat Hartigan) to win five All-Star awards by the age of 24." Five before 24. Incredible!

Henry played with better forwards over the years so when you put it into that context its quite amazing what Eoin was doing. All these lads like Babs and Jimmy Doyle, Nicky English, etc, played alongside better forwards to complement them in their era but Eoin was head and shoulders above who he played beside and that includes Lar Corbett

Never afraid of a physical battle. He should have won alot more All Irelands then he did in the game and had we more ball winning forwards who could have helped him out he could well have but Tipp were in a heap from 03-08

On top of everything, a nicer fella you could not hope to meet. Since he was knee high to a grass hopper the chap has had a love affair with sport and wanted to win every contest he was in no matter what the importance.

Kelly has as much credit as anyone who ever played the game...he's in that special group of players...ring, shefflin, d.j., nicky, ben o'connor, - you could make a case there is a better group of players who were not strictly forwards...who could play anywhere...ken mcgrath, john leahy, brian corcoran, brian whelehan,

Speaking of the devil, Cummins is on Championship Matters tonight, RTÉ at 20:30. I'm sure some of ye watch it and although it's a rather tame affair but if for nothing else watch for Brendan or the man, the God, Marty Morrissey.

I see the South final is on in Clonmel tonight. Killenaule and Carrick. Will Bergin or O' Dwyer feature for the former? Also how much in are these games usually?

According to the nationalist this week all the county men are set to be on show. Say around a tenner in, perhaps 5 if your a student though its been a while since i was at a club game so dont quote me on that.

Speaking of club action, i believe a player from either Golden or Boherlahan was seriously injured last night and the game had to be called off. Anyone know anything?

South Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship Final Result - Killenaule 1-22 Carrick Swan 2-16.

Carrick lead for a good chunk of the game. I heard that Bubbles should've been sent off a couple of times and the ref had a bit of a mare. Can anyone clarify?

    Congrats Killenaule.

Found it on Carrick Swans' site (which is sharp for a club, by the way): http://carrickswan.gaa.ie/club-news-1/southseniorhurlingfinal-matchreport
Twelve months ago Carrick Swan qualified for the South Senior Hurling Final with a last gasp goal against Killenaule. Unfortunately it was ‘The Robins’ who got the late goal today which ultimately won them the 2013 South Senior Hurling title.

The game started at a ferocious pace with Swan leading by 0-02 to 0-00 after two minutes. Killenaule had levelled before the eighth minute and took the lead in the ninth.

At the mid way stage of the first half Killenaule were leading 0-05 to 0-04 but starting to get on top which was worrying from a Swan perspective. There seemed to be very little space available as Killenaule flooded the middle of the field and their half back line with bodies which made it very difficult for us to win our own puckouts.

After nineteen minutes it was double scores 0-08 to 0-04 and the game was in danger of slipping away. However, a wonderful move was finished by James ‘Decky’ Waters to bring us right back into it. Three minutes later Fogarty rattled the Killenaule net after great work from Dale O’ Hanlon to put us into the lead. 2-05 to 0-11.

Both teams added on a point in the next seven minutes to leave the half time score 2-07 to 0-12.

Our scorers in the first half were Danny O’ Hanlon 0-04, Dwaine Fogarty 1-02 and Dale O’ Hanlon 0-01. We looked dangerous when we got the ball into our forward line in the open play in the first half so there was a lot to be confident about going into the second half.

The second half was point for point the whole way through with Swan looking like we were edging it by keeping a 2 point advantage with Killenaule struggling to get on level terms. After forty nine minutes we were 2 points up. 2-13 to 0-17, however Killenaule hit three points in three minutes through Bubble’s O’ Dwyer to take the lead for the first time in the second half. Swan 2-13, Killenaule 0-20. We rallied and fought back brilliantly to retake the lead 2-16 to 0-21 with just 4 minutes remaining.

In the 59th minute disaster struck. The ball broke to Festy Kerwick ten yards out. Goal Killenaule. With time just up we needed a goal to salvage this game. However, it was Killenaule who got the last score of the game in the 61st minute. Full Time Score: Killenaule 1-22. Carrick Swan 2-16.

Congratulations to Killenaule tonight, they kept going to the end and got the small bit of luck you need to win a final at the death.

Although words mean very little to our Senior players at present, Carrick Swan GAA Club would like to thank the Senior management and players for the effort that they’ve put in this year thus far. Under the guidance of John Burns, Alan Rockett, Tom Waters, Mark O’ Halloran and Ray Dunne we couldn’t have been any better prepared than we were for today. We’ve played a brand of hurling which has been a joy to watch all year, we’ve racked up some great scores and point tallies along the way and we’ve played our part in two of the most exciting games of hurling in the division in a long long time vs Ballingarry in the Semi Final and against Killenaule today.

Our year is far from over. We now regroup after a few well deserved days off and we enter the County Championship at Round 4 (last 12) where we’ll play one of the Round 3 winners. In Round 3, Nenagh Eire Og defeated Upperchurch tonight. The other three fixtures in this round take place on Sunday August 4th with Templederry playing Toomevara, Roscrea playing Moycarkey and Burgess playing Borris-Illeigh. In the words of Killenaule captain Declan Fanning, lets give this County Championship a right rattle! Na hEalaí abú.

Silvermines and Kildangan are playing right now in the North hurling final.

Silvermines and Kildangan are playing right now in the North hurling final.

Kildangan stuffing them at the moment 2-2 to 0-1. I think they will go seriously hard on the championship this year and have a decent young team in the pipeline. Silvermines are no bad side it must be said and have Forde, Ronan Sherlock and Orrie Quirke playing for them. Quirke and Sherlock are two exceptional club men while Forde needs no introduction to us.

EDIT: Its now Kildangan 3-3 to 0-2 points

Now up to 3-6 to 0-3 in favour of Kildangan. 20 minutes gone.

Darragh Egan scored a penalty. He was on the Tipp panel a few years back iirc.

Have Silvermines gone home? Its now an astonishing 4-6 to 3 points!

Premierstone will be a happy man tomorrow :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

I don't know much of the club hurling but isn't Premierstone a Toome man?

4-6 in 22 minutes, wow. Willie Connors with the latest goal.

Nope Stone is Kildangan. With Galway and Kilkenny beaten and now Kildangan running away with the county North final he'll be most satisfied

    EDIT: Error there

5-7 to 3 at half time

Are the Mines at Bruce Springsteen themselves? Its the club equivalent of Tipp v Waterford, Munster final 2011

Finished up 5-15 to 0-08. 22 point win. Wow. Congrats Kildangan.

Probably more a reflection of how the north has gone in recent years.

That was some beating for the Mines, what happened them at all?

Probably more a reflection of how the north has gone in recent years.

Could have been a case of nerves getting the better of them though as they were in the Intermediate rank only a year ago. Id like to think Silvermines are better than that scoreline suggests. Kildangan also are a very good and experienced side we must not forget. Plenty of young talent coming through and have county players in the form of Daragh Egan, the Gallaghers, Ruairi Gleeson,

At the time yes it was, but in hindsight id have gladly lost it to retain the All Ireland that year.

Don't think Clinton Hennessy ever really recovered from that. Shipped seven goals but Waterford were bad that day. Hennessey played just two more games having being around the team since '06.

Tbf i dont think the blame lies with Hennessy for any of those goals, or at least certainly not the ones in the first half. He was brutally exposed by some keystone cops marking that day.
