I'm about 80/90% sure that during Being Liverpool Assaidi said that he had a phone call from Rogers and what he said was one of the main reasons he signed?? Anyone else remember this?

^^Yup I remember that. Dead right there

I wonder if those that think Rodgers putting up with the Assadi signing (and subsequently not playing him as a result) reflects poorly on him thought the same of Rafa the fair few times he didn't play Keane.

There we have it, and for those who are inevitably going to say that he was made say it for the programme, I would believe Assaidi saying it 99 times out of 100 over all these rags with their itk info shite

Not his fault his employers massively overpaid for him. Was he supposed to turn down the move and the wage because he's not worth that much?

I thought he had a decent game.

First thing that came into my mind. Interesting reading comments from one or two individuals.

I actually did, especially when it seemed like the guy was finally hitting form and Rafa benched him. I'd take the man back in a heart beat but he didn't half know how to frustrate you sometimes.

He's at the same sh!te at West Ham as well. Great balls being put into the box and he is nowhere to be seen.

Supposedly it's a loan move with a view to a permanant move....if Qpr stay up

He'll be back at Melwood in July

To be fair to Cole, he doesn't seem to have a bad attitude and is eager to play. Its just that his wages and talent dont tally.

Crap are we ever going to rid ourselves of him!

Still if QPR pay his wages then I would be happy enough. He is taking up too much space on the bench.

I think wages and the club philosophy of buying young are the big things. He could be used as an impact sub or for the cups but his wages are too damn high.

I'd be shocked if they paid all his wages tbh.

professional performance in the 1st half.

not so professional in the second. we got very sloppy, and i lost count of the amount of times Taarabt, Mbia or Diakite surged through our midfield.

    but it's a win, a vital win.

and good God, how fúcking incredible does Luis Suarez continue to be?

Well in an ideal world. Probably they will pay most of it....if we are unlucky then we will pay all of it!

Really impressive, after all the crap last year, he has responded in kind. I hope he gets better and better service with a couple of new signings soon. He can't do it all himself.

the only reason it didn't happen more was because they were so disjointed.

once Derry came on, their midfielders at least all knew their role. in the first half, they hadn't a clue who was holding what space and we got through them with ease.

He's just not back fully yet. That's why I think we need a stronger midfielder to control then center. Gerrard and Allen did well in the first half but once they (esp. Stevie) got tired then Rangers were able to run at us. They are at the bottom of the league but at times yesterday it was worrying when they ran at us.

Sunderland will be a stern test for us.

They are doing pretty well lately.

Game we should be winning and need to be as there's tough games coming up.

I am certain that a while back Assiadi said 'The Rodgers' personally convinced him to sign. But if there is any truth in that article 'The Rodgers' is a bigger f*cking clown than I thought.

He's been horrible since he came back.
Im trying hard not to slate him, but he shouldnt have been thrown straight back in. Hopefully Allen will get the run out ahead of him, he needed his wee rest and looked very good yesterday, back to his early season form.

He simply offers a lot more than the Lucas fanboi's think.

Surely it's the opposite of a dig. He was being meddled with, thus he gets a bit of a pass, no?

That kind of like when we are linked with some no mark player in the transfer gossip and people lose their sh1t.

"Fckin Rodgers/Ayre/FSG, cant believe we're going for Carl Cort, club is a joke etc." Then when the rumour is rubbished, not a peep.

Happens here every other week. No need for it really, sly way of having a dig.

Edit: Only noticing Turty's sig now. As the great Ryan Babel would say "SMH".

According to SSN, Ba had very unconvincing talks with Chelski yesterday.

Should we make a cheeky bid for him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 790 ✭✭✭nucker

A good win yesterday, shame it was only the 12th they won in the calendar year

I don't think signing Ba will help our situation

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

A stat which may surprise -

Liverpool v bottom half of table average 2.30 points per game and 4th in table
Liverpool v top half of the table average 0.50 points per game and 17th in table

So the idea that Liverpool chokes against weaker opposition is frankly nonsense this season. Liverpool top the away table against the bottom half with 2.50 PPG.

Id love to have Ba given his goal record, but if the figures on twitter are to be believed hes turning down 80k a week from Chelsea, so surely it would take 100k for him to consider us. Is he worth it?

Having said that, money aside, Id leave Sturridge where he is & do our best to nab both Ba & Walcott. My opinion has changed on Walcott since seeing him get a run through the center recently with Arsenal, his third goal against Newcastle just reminded me so much of Suarez.

Most people agree we're in need of another striker, can I just ask why a relatively low risk signing (7-12m is low risk by out standards lately) of a player who has scored against any and every premiership team over the last 2 seasons for 2 different clubs wouldn't help our situation?

I'm just curious, because a lot of people say NO BA without any explanation.

Are Newcastle seriously going to sell Ba for that price. I would have thought he is much more valuable

Ba would be angling to leave again in 18 months, his agent is a chancer, Liverpool have said they will no longer be held to ransom.

Ahh don't be worrying about it.

    Just file it under;
    Headless chicken Walcott
    Greedy Sturridge
    Inconsistent Defoe
    Etc etc

This thread sometimes has a tendency to only big up a player if he is from a different European league or shows up on Fifa or FM radars.

Newcastle have signed Debuchy from Lille. Another astute signing and scouting mission by them. Meanwhile we persist with British rejects.

Presuming they're both more or less done deals, will Sturridge and Ince both play against Sunderland? Looking forward to seeing them play, if and when they arrive.

Also looking forward to seeing Borini back soon to see what he can do.

A good cup run (either EL or FA Cup) and a top 6 finish would do for me in the new year.

Nice three points yesterday, and no player lacked for effort. Henderson in particular worked his arse off.

One or two ineffective performers but they tried hard at least.

Despite the win, our soft centre was still very easy to spot yesterday just as it was during the game against Fulham. QPR, like Fulham, just did not have the players to exploit that soft centre due to them having an even softer one.

In the second half QPR tried to press harder and get stuck in a little more, and despite them being pretty awful in the centre it was very noticeable that our centre shrank a little in the face of that pressing.

As said a good few times already this season after coming back from games, we have a big wide open space that seems to start just beyond the half way line and it continues right to the edge of our 18 yard box. It is easy enough to spot from the stands, and our recent hidings at the hands of Stoke and Villa all saw those teams get control of the game through that corridor.

Our much lamented lack of real steel will continue to be a problem for as long as we only have the current pool of midfielders to chose from.

Sunderland will provide a stiffer challenge imho, and as a team we will need to be up for it from the first whistle. Am fairly confident against them though mainly due to one depressing stat. That stat being that we have not once beaten a team above us in the league this season but more often than not are capable of handling the teams below us with a degree of comfort.

Looks like we will get a glimpse of Sturridge on Wednesday. Am not sold on the guy at all, but with any luck he will prove the doubters like myself wrong over the course of his Liverpool career, and not turn out to be another turkey purchase in front of goal like Carroll turned out to be.

I do think that a Sturridge style player would have had a field day yesterday as a tad more power and speed in the final third would have seen us stretch their defence far more than we did.

Think my favourite part of yesterday was Enrique bullying the shyte out of QPR's right flank. Wright- Philips discovered early doors that Enrique could run in a straight line as quickly as W-P could, but Enrique also had the strength to treat W-P with a degree of disdain once they came shoulder to shoulder.

Nice touch by the QPR keeper to come to the Liverpool support to give his gloves away. He and Lucas were having a great chat at the final whistle.

Taarabt looked very good when he decided to run through the centre. The guy has a lot of talent, but it was hard to tell if he was as good as he looked or if it was partially down to us having a big open corridor down our spine.

Mbia was an utter shytehouse all game. Falling down at the slightest touch, moaning, and pretty much being a cowardly spoiler all game. Seems to have become a totally different player to what he was a few seasons ago. He was an aggressive win at all costs centre back at Marseilles, now he is a whining diving waste of a team place. Struck me as a player that simply does not want to be there and who does not care who knows.

And a big hello to Mark, a boardise who was on the flight back to Cork last night. Always an odd experience when someone "recognises" you from the internet :D Have forgotten your username Mark, but if your posting style is anything like how you came across irl, then I hope you stop lurking and start posting more despite you supporting that lot :p. Was an absolute pleasure to get to listen to someone as passionate (not to mention as articulate) about sport as you.

Roll on Wednesday morning and the start of another trip home to see either another hefty win or another hefty loss (we just don't seem to half any middle ground of late).

I need a win though. Yesterday's game was against a team led by a manager I don't like, and Wednesday's game is against a team led by a manager I pretty much loathe (well at least as much as one can loathe a person they don't actually know :D, although with O' Neill I do know ehre my frankly irrational dislike comes from). Losing always leaves a bitter taste, but when the team is led by a manager one dislikes, then it really becomes the regurgitated cherry atop a cake of sh1t.
