Lads, Query below is initiated by a relative of mine.

In 2010 started to receive Illness Benefit.
In 2011 at age 65 started on State Pension Transition but also continued to receive Illness benefit,
In 2012 at age 66 qualified for & received State Pension - Contributory. Illness benefit terminated automatically.

Did n't ask for 2 payments during that year & no got a clear explanation from the social welfare website or citizens information website regarding entitlement or otherwise to the 2 payments simultaneously during that 12 month period age 65 to age 66.
Would like to know what the true entitlement situation is before submitting Form 12 & MED 1 for 2010,11 & 12. Anyone out there who was on illness benefit at age 65 did you continue with IB while receiving SPT ?

I'd say that was a mistake on their part to pay both at the same time, usually one of them would be cancelled as far as I know.

The Med forms would be submitted to his tax office not social welfare.

Seems to be a mistake, possibility will have to pay back the money.

This seems to confirm you cant get both payments.
Over 65 and over 66 years

Customers are advised in writing 3 months before their 65th birthday, to apply for State Pension (transition) and 3 months before their 66th birthday to apply for the State Pension (Contributory/Non Contributory).

Claim forms for above pensions issue with the advice letter to customers. State Pension (transition) is not payable in conjunction with Illness Benefit.
When the claimant reaches 66 years of age, payment stops as the customer has exhausted their entitlement to benefit.
