Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Headphone recommendation / Cutting cord to shorten?

    Hi guys,

Looking to pick up a new set of headphones as my other ones bit the dust.

Not sure what I'm buying yet (plan to spend ~€50 or so). Headphones absolutely must be 'closed back' as I enjoy relatively loud music and hate everyone hearing what I'm listening to.

So Sennheiser HD202's caught my eyes.

Used to have a pair of the HD408's and from what I recall they were pretty good, but loud to everyone anywhere near me (didn't like that).

Currently wearing a pair of HD515's and find they're good too (though these are only used in the house).

So although I like all of these headphones, they all have the same debilitating feature - ludicrously long cords, which make them a nightmare for using out and about.

So I asked in a store or two before around the town (Drogheda) and was generally told that I can add to the cord length, but no one seemed interested in shortening it.

So I was wondering if anyone here would happen to know if it's possible to get the cords shortened on these types of headphones? Or alternatively, would anyone be able to make a recommendation for headphones that I could pick up (for in/around €50) that'd be similar to the ones mentioned above, but that have a shorter cord (preferably Sennheiser, as I've come to trust them)?

Not the most knowledgeable on headphones or such. Like bassy headphones and have had several pairs in the past that'd make your ears bleed by 'hissing' the whole time (hence the fondness for Sennheiser - Yet to have an issue).

Cheers to anyone able to offer any advice :)

Here is an idea for shortening the cord.

I don't have any recommendations but there is another thread on this page about €50 headphones.

Seen the €50 headphones thread alright. Took a mooch through it, but the Sennheiser recommendation/s seemed to have the cord problem.

Didn't see that thread you linked to, though. I used to use cable tie when I had a 4 meter cord before, but I used to either have the choice of walking around with a big bunch of wires hanging off me, or putting them under my shirt and looking like I've a strange growth. Neither of which appealed to me.

Ended up picking up a pair of Sony MDR-ZX300 (nice roll-of-the-tongue name ::) ) headphones in HMV (for €35). Seemed a decent price and was getting annoyed looking at headphones with 3-4 meter cords and stuff, so these looked like they'd fit okay, got decent reviews on Amazon and have a manageable cord length, so will hopefully do the job for a while.
