    Hi,
I have a wireless Eircom Modem / Router. I wish to ensure that the network is wifi type N rather than G. As I just bought a N300 USB adapter for 2009 windows 7 laptop.

    How do I ensure this?

If you got the modem from eircom then it's only a G type

what model modem do you have, the latest modem is wireless n.
    the model number is P-660HN-T1A_IPv6

Cool. But FYI this does not appear to be a dual band router from what I can see so if you've wireless G devices connecting at the same time then this is the speed the device will default to even if N devices are trying to connect.

yea its not, all devices connected to it need to be N or it will drop back to G

Check the back and it states:

    P-660HN-T1A

Check my speed and I am getting 54 MBps on wifi. I should be getting more for N so how do I ensure it is on N?

You're with eircom and you're getting 54mbps? I dont think that's correct. The speeds of G (54Mbit/s) and N (your N modem states up to 150 Mbit/s) are theoretical.

As I mentioned earlier if there's a G device trying to connect the modem speed will cap and G speeds. So how many devices have you connecting and are they all N capable?

I have a laptop which is G. But I have a N300 adapter on it.
The speed I quoted is the speed of the wifi connection. Broadband speed is way less. Reason why I want to ensure I am getting N on the wifi is I have just set up a synology server and want devices to connect to it via N.

Go into the modem settings and check that it's only broadcasting in N

Have you read the instruction manual? Or tried to download it from the eircom or manufacturers site (linked to earlier)?

    Ooops sorry, not. See here:

    Solution.

    1. Login your router: see http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=72155703 for info.

    2. Go to Network / Wirelss LAN
    3. On AP tab select advanced button.
    4. Go to 802.11 Mode, select 802.11n
    5. Select apply
    6. To check your new speed follow this: http://homekb.cisco.com/Cisco2/GetArticle.aspx?docid=810e021f443a43779294b05bd6b5bedc_3967.xml&pid=80&converted=0#WinV7

You can get 150MBS with this router.

    Good luck
