Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I remember there was pic of an Arsenal fan (i think) floating around with Huntelaar on his back as he thought they were going to sign him. That must have been quite embarrassing

Had Tevez on the back of a United Jersey.

Still have the jersey as I want to keep a collection of all the ones I have, but hasn't been worn in over 3 and a half years.

So Ronaldinho (real name: Ronaldo Assis de Moreira) is OK, but Hulk (Givanildo Vieira de Souza) isnt?

Serious temptation to use roll eyes here.... :)

There was already an extablished brazillian player called Ronaldo, so to differentiate Ronaldo Assis de Moreira used Ronaldinhio meaning little Ronaldo. A bit of a difference to calling yourself Hulk.

As a Chelsea fan, I was very excited about Ballack and Shevshenko arriving.

I got 'Ballashencko' on a jersey.

I also had (David) Connolly 8 on the back of another West Ham shirt.

On a Liverpool shirt in my youth, thread over!

Feel your pain, had the same myself on the Ecru jersey, only other one was an Aqualani jersey, seeing a trend here...

I remember getting Espen Baardsen's name on a Spurs keeper kit when I was a kid. I had no idea who he was, but the club shop didn't have the letters left to spell any of my favourite players, so the staff recommended that I got the sub goalie's name printed. I wonder if they ever got another Baardsen request.

I still love Nando, even though he left us, he gave me some great memories, including the Torres bounce.
The missus burns all the old clothes, unless they are in perfect nick.

Do you have some sort of disease that means all your old clothes must be burned??

I went to the Boleyn ground shop when I was younger and I wanted Marc Rieper's name on my shirt, the squad numbers hadn't come out but they told me he would be 5 instead of the retiring Alvin Martin. He ended up getting 8 as I don't think Alvin Martin retired. I also had 3 Dicks on another shirt.

    Only 3?

    "Kinnears Red Army"

when Joe Kinnear took over as Forest manager in 2004.

    The shame of it.

Also got Colin Cooper's name on the back of my jersey in 1998. Dave Bassett sold him to Boro four days later.

I remember a few years back a local JJB was selling pre printed arsenal shirts with 'Helb' on the back.

My own worst was a Raul Spanish jersey before the 2002 World Cup. Don't think I ever wore it again after they knocked us out!

A lad in school had Owusu-Abeyie on the back of his Arsenal shirt.

He played 5 matches for Arsenal. A strange choice.

    Cringey bollox.

Also, sticking the names of English clubs on Ireland flags.

    Get a grip.

I worked in Ibiza for the summer a few years ago, the English lads over there used to have some of the chaviest tattoos and jerseys known to man. There was this lad who dj'd in one of the ****ty disco bars whos nickname was Rossi. He had an England jersey which had

    DJ Rossi
    69
    Oi Oi

on the back. The worst i have ever seen. Absolute plebb.

Wearing a jersey over the age of 16 full stop, unless at astro or a sporting event.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

    Bjornabeye
    20

On the back of the Liverpool Home jersey that had the thick Vneck white collar. He wasn't a bad player but I was allowed into town for the first time on my own to get it printed. I told the parents I was getting Fowler.
They weren't too happy when I came back with no change due to the cost of the letters and two numbers. Got McMananaman 17 the following season, it was my form of rebellion towards them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,499 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Only ever had one name on a jersey, that was Fowler on a Leeds jersey.

Worst I saw was Agueeeeeeerrroooooooooooo and the time of the goal against QPR, found it cringeworthy.

Smith 17, 2 months before he left Leeds for Utd

    F*cker :pac:

Same thing happened actually with Howson, bought the shirt and a couple of months later he's off to Norwich.

    Never getting a Becchio shirt...

    Fashanu 8 Villa!

Was in Taiwan once, and in the fashionable, consumer district, saw a Taiwanese guy wearing a Sunderland shirt with "Evans" on the back from the year he was on loan there.

Summer before I worked in Liffey Valley and saw a Dub shopping in dunnes wearing an Everton 14 shirt with Zinedine on the top...........

Mate of mine usexd to play five a side with a old De La Pena barca shirt which was cool though

Actually went into a Celtic pub in Barracks Street Cork say 10 years ago now. Saw a guy wearing a Rangers jersey.

We felt like going over to tell him he might want be careful for his safety, but on the back of it it read something like "biggest scum in the world".

Did not know if we should pray or laugh at him.

Yeah. I can't remember rightly, but did something similar happen with Trabelsi at Arsenal. I know Pro Evo jumped the gun on it and had him as an Arsenal player for the games release in 2005 or 2006.

I'm a fan of the old printed jersey.

Worst two were definitly two Utd jerseys.

    Cruyff and Blomquist(spellcheck?)

    Shocking...

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,868 ✭✭✭Andersonisgod

The day after we signed Fernando Torres I went straight into town, bought the home jersey and got his name on the back. Whenever I see that jersey now it always reminds me of what might have been.

At the same time there were another two lads in the store, one getting Carroll on the back of his Liverpool jersey, the other Joe Cole, so I suppose it could be worse.

In 1995, just after Blackburn won the league I saw some fella around Cork City wearing a Manyoo shirt with "Blackburn Me Bollix" on the back of it.

    Tragic for him really.

Seen far too many Bobby Sands 32 as well in my time.

    I saw the winner today.
Some roast with a gah bag on the knock-liverpool flight. It was a Liverpool jersey and it had "Just Cant Get" above a 7 and "Enough" below.
Doesnt make sense for one thing.
I've never wanted to hit someone for the clothes they were wearing but I was just disgusted!!

I have gotten Giggs on a Utd jersey in the 1990s, and Van Persie on this season's jersey, and Crespo 10 on a Lazio one from back in the day but that's it. I'd never get this

Well if it has we have our winner that is criminal to do to a football jersey .

In my youth I had - and still own - a Liverpool jersey with Heskey on the back

Generally speaking I think it's a bad idea to have a name on the back nowadays, since players usually only stay for a few seasons. Exceptions like Scholes or Gerrard are acceptable
