Has anyone heard a rumour or fact about something uncovered while they were excavating to build a car park in gas yard lane?

So far i have heard: Oil, Gas Pocket, historic (Norman) ruins/tombs.

The one that has me asking, is the last one. A few people have mentioned that there may have been historic something-or-other uncovered there.
I'm beginning to think there must be something uncovered, because many people talking about it.
Pocket of dangerous gas doesn't sound too pleasant, and with it being called gas yard lane, sounds most likely.
The Oil version seems most unlikely, and just sounds like someone got a story they heard wrong.

Apparently this is where it was found, whatever "it" is.

I heard a couple of years ago that there was medical waste dumped there. Its all hearsay though and I wouldn't take it as gospel.

There was an epidemic of dumped medical waste around North County Dublin some time ago and areas like that were prime targets for the dumpers. The land there near the Junction of the M50 and Clare Hall where they built the apartments was absolutley riddled with it and specialists had to be brought in to decontaminate the land before they could build.

That area in particular was two houses and a restaurant (Siam Thai) up to a few years ago. So as far as i know it was never dumping ground. They started digging it up to put in a car park about a month or two ago, and the rumours started about two/three weeks ago (Well, that was the first i heard of them.).

One of the rumours came from Longford..
But they are quite rampant, i was just wondering did anybody know which one is true. It'd be interesting if it was some sort of building..

I remember hearing some ancient ruins were found there when I was a kid. I wonder if that rumour is still alive and well? :)

I hope so.. It could be good to go and have a look, although i doubt anyone will be allowed soon if it is.
Heard another version tonight that said there is a joint ownership on the land, and that they want it covered up quickly. If that's true, would they get away with it?

Remember, everything i'm hearing is probably 1,000th party. (As opposed to 3rd party).

They might have found an old bike from the 80's..

I remember hearing years ago that there are catacombs under Malahide Church, and that there are tunnels all around Malahide, from the castle and church and well.. Don't know if you can view them though.

Dont know how true that rumour is. My apartment overlooks the site (old Siam Thai) and it was scrub land up to about 6 weeks ago. One morning a load of diggers arrived and cleared the long grass, delivered some gravel and steam rolled the site.

Seems like it was a plan to have it as a car park however I did find a planning application online for a medical centre and apartments on that site. 4 stories high too so good bye privacy!

The two lads that applied for that aren't (For the moment) going ahead with it. I have done a lot of work for them in the past. I haven't seen either of them in a while, or i would have asked, but they probably wouldn't say.
Not sure if they own the scrub land too, as i was told that is still owned by the owner of Siam Thai.

They also got refused for a medical centre on Swords road, because of access issues. If they had those issues on swords road, then they have worse ones there. Can you imagine the bottleneck of visitors/patients/ambulances..

This might be a long shot but have you tried ringing the council or your local council member to put you mind at ease rather than increasing speculation?

    Nope. :o
I'd have to look up their number, get the phone, ring them, get put on hold, ask them, get put on hold, ask the new person, get put on hold, told a new number to ring...

I guess i just thought somebody here may have the answer.
