What's to look forward to in 2013?

In preservation D&CDR might advance extension plans. RPSI are developing their site. ITG Will hopefully make more progress in Carrick.
That's about all I know about.

On CIE I can't think of anything positive. I don't know enough about NIR to comment.

To save this thread from becoming negative can posters only post positive things please. Too easy to post negative stuff. Plenty of other threads for that.

New timetable coming in to speed up a lot of intercity journeys.

    Continuing overhaul of the 071s.

The Luas to Broombridge seems certain to happen.

The three main preservation groups: as the OP said.

IE: Precious little unless they finally commission the first phase of the Dublin city resignalling project. It is scandalous that they invested so much in signalling equipment yet haven't activated it.

NIR: New timetable with hourly trains between Coleraine and Belfast; new Portadown station opening; relay of Whitehead to Larne; and the reopening of Coleraine to Derry after refurbishment.

For 2013 on the preservation front:

Extension to Ballydugan progresses at the DCDR.
Preservation secured for last remaining 80 Class railcar unit.
Progress to restore ITG locos 226 and G611 to working order continues at Carrick.
The movement of 124 to the DCDR, to be painted grey and yellow and operate trains bonnet first, that's just me btw.;)
Restoration of GNR 171 to working order towards 2014.
Completion of the RPSI station at Whitehead.

    On the main lines:
Reinstatement of liner traffic to Waterford.
The overhauls of 071 locos currently out of traffic to be completed.
The DASH works to be completed as well as improving the layout at Grand Canal Dock.
    Line to Derry reopens.

Waterford-New Ross rail link to reopen

The 100-year-old line is to be restored to its former glory to become a major tourist attraction and link two important tourist destinations in the South East.

isn't carrick being cutoff from the main line be IE, or at least still threatening it. and anything being done about b103?

You shouldn't believe all you read in the local newspapers and there's more chance of Waterford putting a man on Mars before this nonsense comes to pass. A walking trail perhaps but a 'Bord na Mona' style train taking at least 1.5 hours to travel between Waterford and New Ross - I don't think so. As for being restored to its former glory - is that what has been achieved over on the W&SVR at Kilmeaden?

Doesn't make any difference it is a virtual connection as it is on longer possible to move withdrawn stock without independent certification and separate insurance etc. Too hard too expensive. No vehicle will ever leave Carrick by rail again. Connection no connection no difference.

B103 has a beautiful tin shed around it. It is well protected now.

See FAQ on ITG website for details on the lease etc.

One can only speculate on what an unstable vassal government is going to do.
