My parents have Eircom broadband, and an ancient Netopia router that they've had for at least 8 years. It's rubbish and can't handle more than 2 devices being connected.

Today, we bought a Belkin N600 wireless modem router. For the life of me, I can't get it to set up. I've gotten it broadcasting a signal, but it won't actually connect to the internet.

The complicated bit is my parents' system. They have what they call a 'switchboard'. We have several phones in different rooms of the house, and they're all connected through the switchboard. This means it's not as simple to set up a router as usual.

I'm not expecting anyone to be able to help here, but has anyone any experience of a system like that? Any ideas how I can get the new router to work? Or better yet, is it possible to bridge the two routers so both will work in the house simultaneously, with only one having to be actually connected to the system?
