Gave in to temptation this morning and went to the dx site only to see they have sold out. Hopefully they'll come back in stock soon.

I got that email saying my order is being processed yesterday. Nothing has changed on the website since my payment was confirmed/authorised after I placed the order. If it arrives in time for Easter I'll be happy......

The responce in the video looks really good...

I just wonder will it be that fast when they arrive :S

I got the email saying it was being processed too, ordered some other bits with it so could be next Xmas before I see it ;) although usually it hasn't taken beyond 6 weeks for me with DX :pac:

I bought this specifically to play movies on my tv. Can a media player like VLC be installed?

Can it play MKV and MP4 movie files?

Yeah, but MX player, BSPlayer are better than VLC on Android.

I don't think that model can play MKV. If it can, i can't imagine it'll be very good. It'd be poor at streaming.

I could very well be wrong.

As per the specs on the DX site:

Video Format AVI / RM / RMVB / MKV / WMV / MOV

I think it will play nearly everything you try on it, but the specs on the DX site are not to be relied upon, as they are calling it the U2 when it is actually the U1A they were selling.

it may be able to play them, but the quality it plays them in wouldn't be very good.
Playing them from a hard drive may play better, but playing streaming will be different. It may play, but they will struggle terribly to do so.
Also as eamonnq pointed out, don't rely on what DX said. For starters, they have the name of the device wrong. They said it was the UHOST U2 which it isn't. It's the U1A (Older version).

Just noticed eamonnq also pointed that out.. (No harm in repeating it. :P)

very true... I was just pointing out that they have ability to play them. We wont know how good they are at any playback til we get out hands on one...

I think someone in the thread has one and was gonna try XBMC on it for us...i wonder how that went

I have XBMC running on the U2, and it works well, gave a guy in work a 'lend' of the U1A for the weekend and am still waiting for it ( I think he likes it!!).

Have not used XBMC before though, so am still working my way around it (and tidying up my music collection while I am at it.)

Thats good, yeah its available and works on many android devices but isnt quite stable yet is some areas. They just dont want to release it on the play market until they have all the stability issues sorted.

XBMC will run on most android devices as long as you are only looking at low res video but as I posted previously only certain devices with the Amlogic chip or some of the very powerful quad core devices will run 720p or 1020p video.

As also pointed out XBMC for android is still very beta. I have it running on a few tablets and just use it for watching the low res free TV streams from Filmon, I find it better than trying to stream directly from the player on their website but even at that the plugin often crashes and I need to force close the XBMC app and restart it in order to change channel sometimes.

Yeah, same. I got decent quality streaming from the Nufront chips. But one of them gave me a bit of hassle.
But sopcast was unreal, the quality amazing. Within XBMC some of the Repositories were better than others. I was getting from: very dark and hard to make out --> close to 720p.

Also worth noting that in some cases the older nightly builds worked better for me then the newer builds. But as mentioned, sometimes i had to exit out, go to apps, force close XBMC and restart it.

From talk on some other forums, it looks like this may have been a pricing error, and DX are not honouring it!

Can confirm that after getting onto DX on their livechat, I was told almost immediately that my order was not available and asked did I want a refund or exchange straight away. Was told "sometimes the item will be not available because of high demand".

I ordered in the first round of orders before it ever showed as out of stock. Pretty disappointed as this was my first order with DX! Hopefully some of the rest of ye will get your orders fulfilled!

    1) you will actually get it (edit: actually judging by comments below that might not be the case)
    2) two cores vs one

I'd be very wary of that seller, look at their recent feedback all of which are related to the MK808, almost looks like a hijacked account.

Was at the payment screen in PayPal when something in my head told me to look back on boards and see if there is anything more written about it! I'm glad I did now!

I deleted the link, but 17 of the last month are positive, 6 are negative.. And they are all giving out that the tracking number is bad... That's kinda normal from China.... They might still get them

    AND It's just after Christmas..

I ordered from Aliexpress Free deliver on the 28th of November, Tracking number didn't work they arrived today.. So i wouldn't agree with those.

17 are positive in the last month. I'd risk it. I might still... I Just have two delivered today of a different model, so i don't need them yet.

If I was to order now and it doesn't arrive within a month is it possible/easy to get a refund from PayPal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,060 ✭✭✭Kenny Logins

Yeah, that tracking number panic is a little unreliable as tracking numbers often don't go 'live' for a day or two.

    Yep, you have 45 days.
I would actually trust it. He has good feedback up to this, and this was posted on a forum, so more people buying and panicking. €28 isn't an AMAZING price, it's okay, just roughty €8 cheaper than elsewhere.

If you get that be worried man, Paypal is the only thing I trust to handle my payments. At least you can get a refund off them.

I must have over 100 orders from DX over the last 5+ years and never had any bother.
If they can't fulfil the order in reasonable time they'll mail you asking so you want to cancel.
You can also raise a ticket with customer service now and cancel.

At the price it was worth amount and I'll hold out and see whether it ships.
In the interim I've ordered a NEO G4 from them. Gets great reviews and comes in around 40 euro

    Just saw this on DX

    http://club.dx.com/forums/forums.dx/threadid.1260571?page=2

To all: Regarding the mini android 4.0 Media Player–sku.145864 External link you have purchased

Unfortunately, after receiving the most recent batch of media players, it came to our attention before shipment that some of these media players have a quality issue that may affect performance. At that time we also discovered that the manufacturer supplied us with a discrepancy in information regarding the processor frequency.

Having known this fact, we tried to find an alternative source but no comparable units were available. We also attempted to have another batch of media players manufactured to the proper specifications but this would have required factory re-tooling that was not feasible in a reasonable amount of time.

    1. Full refund will be issued on this item for anyone who ordered the product regardless of shipment date. We will contact you directly to follow up on this and you may keep the media player.

    2. If your order hasn’t been shipped yet, it will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund and a $5 USD coupon code to use toward the purchase of a related Android HD media player here

The problem wasn't stock related, but quality related.

    :(

The 6 Negs were all for the MK808, those other positives were for different items. Anyway the item now seems to have been removed by ebay and probably the seller too. The reason Paypal refused to accept payment from TheTechGuy is most likely because their account has been suspended because of too many claims. Too late now anyway but I wouldn't have gone near him with a bargepole.

    PRICE related  I'd say...
Thought I was in the clear, had no emails except confirmation mail up until yesterday - then a flurry of emails last night. Langballs.

You'd swear half the flashlights/bike lights were actually the claimed brightness. They'll have to shut the site down if they can't ship anything that has been exaggerated a bit.
