PC Specialist - Best/safest payment method?

I'm about to buy a computer from PC Specialist.

It annoys me that they charge 2% for use of a Credit Card, particularly so when, in addition, the £19 dead pixel insurance charge does not cover postage back to the UK, should that be necessary.

So, which payment option should I go for?

    Many thanks.

    D.

Never heard of dead pixel insurance..

Here's a thought, don't buy the screen from them, buy it local; if there's an issue bring it back to them, no insurance, no postage and keep the money in the local economy.

Sorry, should have said it's a laptop.

Thinking about it, bank transfer is probably the fastest and most cost efficient method.

One other thing, they told me that if I'm VAT registered (I am) there was a space to fill in my Irish VAT number and not go through the hassel of paying UK VAT. I can't see that space on the payment form.

Thats what the credit card charges a company every time you swipe your card. more, with some cards, which is why things like American Express aren't accepted in so many places. In this case the retailer is just passing that charge onto the customer, in a transparent fashion.

Basically the reason you get 30 days interest free is that the retailer pays.
And it's nothing new. Mail order computer companies have been doing this since at least the 1990's , back then it was a way of advertising margins so low that they couldn't adsorb the costs.

Always use a credit card it there is any possibility of hassle since you get slightly more protection that way as the contract is between the supplier and the credit card company.
