I think a lot of people on here are forgetting that this is gonna be a maximum of about 500 quid.... (we hope)

It is nowhere near what an amazing PC rig is capable of - end of - but for a console in the living room you seem to be getting a lot of bang for your buck....

I'm glad the "next gen" has finally begun....

Capcom game and square enix game only shown chi trailer, there was no gameplay to show how the ps4 horsepower is capable off.

Desting supposely exclusive new gameplay was a sniper reloading and 3 dudes running down a corridor.

It felt like sony just wanted to announce their console (we knew was coming) before xbox.

This whole take the gaming experience with you thing is just over the top imo.

Is their anyone out there really thats wanna play games 24/7

It's going to be easy for developers to code games so hopefully the price is more reasonable

I guess that is what it looks like for now.

Link to a high res video of Killzone https://t.co/a5EomSg8V2

It looks to be a massive step over the ps3 in terms of hardware graphically speaking which I think is a good thing, better looking games surely isn't a bad thing and watchdogs looks damn good. As for all the other "social" side of it,meh, I'd just ignore it.

Was actually hoping for Gran Turismo 6 footage,at least we might see it by 2017.

Theres always the new xbox and forza though

I'm not. Didn't see what the big rush was, to be honest. I'm happy enough with the current gen. It looks and plays good. They could keep bringing games out on it for the next few years, and I'd still be happy.

This sort of thing seperates fans from addicts

I like taking games to the jacks with me, but I've already got a DS for that. No amount of fancy new graphics, or being able to instantly share progress online can beat Pokémon on the toilet.

A 'Holiday 2013' release date is just weird. Hey sooner its launched the better and all that.

But it just feels like the console will get 'ports' within the first while of its life. Knacked seemed to be the only game that was deep into its development cycle. Of course, funny the way its being directed by the guy in charge of the ps4's development ;)

The best time for them to release would be then when people have the money for Christmas. Wonder how much it will cost.

    Rumoured to be two models,
A 429$ version, and a 529$ version. Price seems fair enough to me, will probably be about 399euro, or else if they'll just throw currency conversion out the window and charge the same in euro as they do in dollar like they did with the vita.

That was terrible..my money's on Xbox again to take the crown... You'd think Sony would get it right considering the ps3 wasn't great compared to the 360 (gaming wise).

IMO Sony have gotten it right. Its just the developers have gotten it wrong.

I argue the other way round, PS3 was better in gaming (had much better games and exclusives) whilst the Xbox was far better in social experiences, and general online features.

I know you say gaming wise but personally I find it hard to be appreciative to Microsoft, I'm on my third 360 since launch and still on my 60 GB launch PS3. I'll admit that the optical driive died on my PS3 a few months back, but I just play games for all but nothing on PS+ now.

Ps3 had more users than xbox 360, slightly less sales though

everyone has different storys it all depends on where you place your console and on luck on what console you got

ive had 3 ps3s since launch
    all broke
i also bought an xbox at launch
xbox is still working perfect to this day , doesnt matter which console someone thinks is more relieable because one way or another its mostly luck if your console survives a few years , its like both companys made the consoles knowing their some form of the hardware would fail at some point

What's the deal with the controller? Can it be used as a move controller since they used actual move controllers to sculpt?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,932 ✭✭✭YouSavedMyLife

So much hate in this topic. They are adding alot of nice new features to it.
    - 1 button streaming is really cool.
    - Play a game while its downloading in the background also another really nice feature considering how damn long games take to download on PSN.
    - The ability to turn off your PS3 in the middle of a game without saving, then turn it back on 2 hours later and be at the same point in the game instantly.
    - Allowing someone on your friends list remotely control your game.
    - Being able to demo games instantly without having to download 1-2gigs of data

...and the games ofcourse. Difficult to see on a low quality stream how good the graphics actually are but they are no doubt gonna be leaps and bounds above any current console.

As a gamer im excited after watching that and i no doubt will be picking one up at some stage but most likely not at launch since i do have a high spec PC and as with most console launches the games really do tend to be lacking. Maybe now i will actually play Diablo 3 assuming the AH has been removed :D

Looking forward to what Microsoft have to offer

It appears to have move functionality without being a move replacement

A big pile of meh, where are the games at? I couldnt give a rats ass about being always connected to all my friends bs, killzone is just another damn shooter (a genre which i was hoping would lessen in popularity this gen) , square just trolled...again, watchdogs was running on a mid end pc, all that cloud gaming is irrelivant to me as im stuck with a crappy eircom connection, and to top it off we didnt even see a ps4 or get any inkling of price or even what its capable of :(

The PS3 passed the 360 in sales recently.

Wow I thought there'd be more excitement in here. Even if I don't intend to pick up a new console I love reading about it's features and ideas. The one for me that looks so interesting is the wiiU style portable use of the Vita especially when other people in the house are using the TV for stupid reality shows. I'd love to see the vita come out with a hdmi out port that would let me use my console on another TV in the house without actually moving the console. Oh how teenage, mega drive hooked up to my tiny TV in my room, would have loved that!

As for the games themselves I'm not too concerned as they'll have at least a year of pumping out games before I have any actual interest in picking up the console.

E3 will tell a greater story on next Gen games when it arrives in June. The presser did its job in announcing the PS4 and some of its features. Now its out in world and E3 will go in depth as to pricing, actual dates, etc. It was a good event for what it was, and got people talking about it. Job done, Sony.

i had fun on the ps4 announcement thread (I have fun at every playstation announcement, you can easily make drinking games out of it)

My thoughts both for the ps4 and for the next generation in general...

I dont feel there is a sense of a huge leap forward, except with the Wii obviously (as the wii U is now HD) and the 360 due to its age. Worse I really do think there is much less of a will to move forward I felt the most telling game in the last few years to highlight this was battlefield 3, and I do feel that game still stands as the only title to put forward an argument for a new generation of consoles.

And by that I mean we have a host of new engines announced but really it has only been the frostbite engine that has been picked up by EA and have run with it announcing a slate of titles using it.

Unreal 4 engine has been showing teeth for close to a year now, but apart from 2 in house titles announced to be in development and nothing else, sure they confirmed it can run on the ps4... But no ps4 titles are confirmed using it. How many other engines have been announced that actually have titles tied to them? Have Square confirmed any titles for their new engine? I think Konami are the only ones to confirm a title for their fox engine and again thats slated for this generation.

I mean watch dogs which everyone keeps drooling over uses the same engine as Assassins Creed 3.

Epic are quite comfortable right now with the joy of their engine being a core element of this generation for some time.

I lost track of where I was going with this...one second.

Essentially I dont feel the drive for the next generation from a gaming perspective, I see a lot of reacting to how the wider software market has changed since then and that is in its core what the majority of the playstation announcement felt like. A lot of buzz words to tackle the drastic shift in the market.

On what was shown, watch dogs was the most impressive, I was genuinely surprised that they didnt get a showing from some people specifically Konami and EA, I would have thought konami at least would have tried to continue the relationship they have with playstation and their metal gear brand, EA equally enjoy more popularity on the ps3 with battlefield then they do on the 360. Of the big 4 (Take 2, EA, Ubisoft, Activision) two were a no show, one won hands down with a multi platform title that I will bet every penny I own will come to this generation as well and Activision...well they kept shooting sony in the foot by having every title they announce be equally confirmed for the ps3 on the same day.

As for the other companies that showed up, Capcom & Square Enix.

I've said my words about Capcom but to repeat clearly...They have utterly destroyed every potential they had this generation. At the 360 launch Capcom were the only company I looked at and thought *they are doing interesting titles, could this generation be Capcom's generation to shine?* They had titles like Dead Rising and Lost Planet, that while not perfect they were fresh, and then they did the awesome retro stint with megaman 9 and they showed a genuine interest in making good co-op games.

And then they f*cked it up, again and again, the co-op was poorly thought out, the games got lazy, the dlc got cheeky (to be nice about it) the designs felt archaic and poorly thought out and it just kept getting worse and worse.

Square Enix....they were f*cking cheeky and the less said the better.

In the end that leaves us with a console launching *this year* without a killer app. Thats a serious misstep, the next god of war is ps3, the last of us, the next naughty dog game is ps3, what is honestly there to get players to trade in their ps3 for a ps4 this christmas? More so now that the ps4 is not backward comparable, you are giving up major AAA titles coming out this year exclusive to ps3 for a new console that has nothing yet and its less then a year away? That is an issue. The Wii U got announced july 2011 and was launched late 2012 (that gave them 2 E3's to build on, sony get 1), that gave them just over a year for their launch line up, on a console supposable in development since 2008. Sony have given themselves less then a year and there is not one exclusive game announced for it at launch announced tonight that I'd call a must buy for hardcore sony fans, let alone hardcore gamers.

And no I dont consider killzone a killer app. The Killzone franchise infuriates and equally facinates me because its a franchise that quite frankly after the first one sucked so much I didnt think anyone wanted a franchise and yet it was brought back over and over because sony needed their exclusive first person shooter franchise, and by the miracles above they actually were able to iron out a good game...by their third attempt. But the universe is hollow and I really wish Guerilla did get to make the new I.P they wanted to make that they said they were doing 3 years ago...

As for the footage, I still stand by it being Bullshot. it may be much more sophiscated in mimicking how an fps plays then their infamous killzone 2 bullshot, but after aliens colonial marines proved that the art of making convincing bullshot is real and it is here, I question every frame of that *demo*

And the showmanship of someone pressing a button to share the demo at the end...Felt incredibly staged and not genuine.

As for the other games, Drive club could be fun, doesnt look the prettiest and car porn aint my thing, but I would be interested in a shake up in the racing genre for online play as teams.

The Witness has a lot of pedegree and I liked the music, but I hope the puzzles are not going to be those maze grids all the way through :(

The Heavy Rain developer really makes me want to hit him all through his talk

I was surprised and annoyed at the return of the move and while anything motion controlled at a show is incredibly questionable, I give a pass because of media molecules work in LBP.

In the end...did I hate it? I may sound like I did, but honestly, I didnt hate it, I just felt confused by it, it comes back to my first statement, this new generation just feels blah.

I am happy that they did confirm in a press packet after the event that the ps4 will have a blu ray player, it just felt very odd going through that whole presentation and there wasnt even a brief confirmation of them sticking with the format, after the vita and the lack of backward compatability I thought we might have been in for a bigger upset then expected
