You realise that there's a good chance you can get that repaired right?

Can't, brought it to the computer shop the guy said nothing could be done for it after he opened it up. He was a bit of an ass though so I dunno.

Go to a specialist. The Console Repairs guys out in Bray are a good crowd, great reputation as well.

It'd probably be 100ish would it, I bought another PS3 for 80 last year and then resold it for 100 some time later so there'd really be no point spending too much on a repair.

Sony has made it official that it won't be implementing any sort of DRM in the PlayStation 4 to stop the use of used-games The confirmation comes in the form of Sony retroactively having answered the question of used-game DRM. Kotakuhad decided to contact Sony directly about the question, and the Sony representative pointed Kotaku towards a statement made by Sony studio chief Shuhei Yoshida back in February.

According to Yoshida, "At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that."

Sony has been playing the PR game quite well with its next-gen console. Just recently, Sony boss Kazuo Hirai said that for the PlayStation 4, games come first. This comes in the wake of Microsoft's controversial Xbox One unveiling where the company talked about the Xbox One's TV capabilities for the majority of the event.

At the D11 conference, Hirai said, "The most important thing we need to do is agree and understand that the PS4 is a great video game console that appeals to video gamers." He continued, "If we miss that part, I don't think we get the initial establishment of the console. That formula has worked for us with all our consoles, including the PS3."

This doesn't mean that the PlayStation 4 won't have any non-gaming functionality, though. Hirai has said that the company will be revealing more non-gaming related functionality of the PS4 later."Providing other non-game content is an area we will reveal and talk about in the coming months, but it's first and foremost a video game console." Sony is bound to unveil more information about the PS4 at the upcoming E3.

The PlayStation 4 is expected to hit stores later this year.

    X What?

i think sony are again gone way behind. the console that sell the most is the one that will get the best games, ie whoever sells the most consoles

between ps3 + xbox360, sony was better imo for streaming etc and xbox better at games.

this however was not what was required at the time, games consoles were still required to be games consoles.

however, now when the market (imo) are looking for a machine to do everything sony come along and decide they want to focus on the gamers

sound like a massive f*ck up IMO, everyone want multi-media devices and if xbox is that, it will outsell by a majority to the casual gamer.

i hope i am wrong as my brother got an xbox last time and it has been too long since playing Gran Turismo. if its cheapish and a good multi media system, this might become the first console i bought since the PS1.

now when the market (imo) are looking for a machine to do everything...

Can I ask what makes you feel that way? We can already buy TVs that use motion and voice commands to control their functions. We also have TVs that can access Netflix, Lovefilm, YouTube etc.

Why do we need a games console that can also do that? Should a games console not be a games console first?

I imagine the ps4 will retain all the ps3 multimedia capabilities with Netflix etc.
Sony are pushing the games aspect as its the most important function of any console.

If the PS4 didn't have all of the PS3's multimedia capabilities then I'd buy an XBox One ahead of it. I want a games console but I also want to be able to watch Netflix and be able to watch Blu-Rays. But Sony confirmed already that it will have all of those capabilities. This whole 'all-in-one entertainment system' debate seems very odd to me as both machines are going to be like that.

    +1

For me, I think the only real difference between the two systems so far is that Sony's marketing BS has been less offputting than Microsoft's marketing BS.

Has the xbox one confirmed blu-ray movie playback?

I know it will have games on blu-ray, that doesn't mean movies will work though.

Nope, that hasn't been confirmed, and it was a rumoured before the reveal that it has a blu-ray, but the blu-ray could only read games and not movies.
Something about them needing to acquire a license to have it read movies.
Though that could be total BS so don't hold me to it.

No one cares about bluray movies :P, it's a dead in the water format.

  • Registered Users Posts: 416 ✭✭Faker74

YOU don't care about blu ray movies.

I certainly do. It may not have been the format that the studios etc. were hoping for in terms of replacing DVD, but generally speaking the picture and sound quality are superior to any streaming product I've seen, so for that reason I'll continue to buy them.

And if both consoles were equal in every other respect but only one could play blu ray movies, that would be the tipping point for me.

I care about Blu Ray too. I hate streaming films and much prefer to own them. Plus I actually like the extras you get on them too so they're worth it to me.

If we're gonna shout then I'll rephrase.

The MAJORITY do not care about bluray movies, sales do not lie despite what YOU enjoy.

    .

It has been indirectly confirmed I thought?

which sales are these now, the ones that are consistently increasing or the ones that are constantly increasing.

Oh, so the sales show bluray is in the majority now is it, or getting clise at least? That's gotta be what you mean as i said the opposite in my post, this is news to me and I'll happily retract my previous post, unless there's been some miscommunication here.

I have to disagree entirely with you and the reaction online about the Xbox One reveal would lead me to think I'm not alone. A games console should be that first with the multimedia aspects secondary

Disc sales have been up growing 10-20% each year and the players have increase 2x for 2012 over 2011, or do you expect that as soon anything new shows up is instantly replaces all the existing formats.

DC Universe and Planetside 2 officially confirmed for PS4. Think that brings the total up to 5 F2P games so far which is great.

So you're just going to continue to ignore what i actually wrote? I mean that's 2 of my posts in a row where it seems like you're answering someone else. This is very off topic and i don't want to make it worse by going into a very detailed criticism of your parting shot.

To be fair, you originally said that the majority of people do not care about BluRay movies and when someone argued that BluRay sales have been consistently on the increase, your point of argument changes to say that the majority of movie sales are DVD rather than BluRay, which is a substantially different issue.
