They should allow users develop their own software, homebrew is always positive unless piracy enters the equation.

The PSP did but it was removed by 1.50 before it even reached the US, Sony have the some new methods of getting stuff on the store for smaller developers in any case now.

To be fair, you originally said that the majority of people do not care about BluRay movies and when someone argued that BluRay sales have been consistently on the increase, your point of argument changes to say that the majority of movie sales are DVD rather than BluRay, which is a substantially different issue.

No i most certainly did not say that, i have not mentioned dvd at all.

So what are you referring to then that is in the majority if it's not Blu-Ray it must be something; VHS, streaming, laserdisc.

For me, I think the only real difference between the two systems so far is that Sony's marketing BS has been less offputting than Microsoft's marketing BS.

+1....thats all it is, Sony seeing what mistakes M$ made and vice versa, they'll both be entertainment systems, its just M$ got more flack from fanboys.

Tbf to M$ i am sure they pushed the all-in-one entertainment and tv stuff based on stats, like people watching Netflix on the xbox etc.

I do belive they are right, that the xbox is being used more and more for stuff other tha gaming, but the internet nutters hammered M$ for something that Sony will do as well, just not focus on it more under the radar.

I be shocked if there arent multiple apps on the PS4, premium services, and other related stuff.....i just *hope* they enable .mkv playback.

    M$ M$ M$ M$ .

    I'll never understand this childishness.

    +1 on MKVs.

Sony's issue is that they need to make the point that their machine is also capable of being an entertainment unit because like it or not there are a lot of people for whom an 'all-in-one' box does appeal and whilst gamers seem to be making their mind up at this, albeit early, stage there is a wider market out there whom Sony can't afford to let Microsoft have a clear run at.

It's a fine balancing act for them between keeping gamers onside and making sure that they don't give their rival a big advantage.

Right, this entertainment debate is really starting to be a bit stupid...
the only thing that Xbox one can bring to the table I'm entertainment world is that cable tv function. Which still fecking forces you in to getting the damn cable box and subscription and hooking it up to Damn Xbox one! Oh yeah, not supported in Europe as we are focused on satellite TV!!
other then that entertainment function will be identical, unless MS will buy out the rights for sky again. Though it ishard to see this time.
So bough will play movies ( Xbox not confirmed, but most likely it's just trolling ), both play music, both got music streaming services, both Will have ( at least should) have browsers etc. What sort of entertainment functionality can Xbox one bring better?! If they call all **** in front of connect and voice commands as ultimate stuff for entertainment system, then. They can just feck off...
oh oh oh, if what, it will be worse as it might have functionality to limit the amount of viewers thanks to kinect. At least you can earn an achievements for watching 10 porn movies and not having a ****. Only legit if Kinect could have seen you/recorded you and you were not sneaky about with a pillow on your crouch.

Anyone know if the Xbox One can play CDs? I know the PS4 can't, not a big deal, but I'm sure people will use that as an arguing point.

    Blu-ray Games or Movies?

You obviously don't know the difference. Or don't care.

Either way your opinion will not be valid.

I watched the extended Lord of the Rings on Blu-Ray DVD with a 7.1 Surround Sound headset, if you think DVD quality is as good as that you really shouldn't have the privilege of either.

did i really just read someone said that dvd is the same as bluray lol?

"surround sound" headsets are a load of balls.

I am intrigued about what is hyperbole about blu-ray though.. explain yourself mozattack!

Not if you use a good pair, I don't use mine often for watching movies, but for gaming they work wonders.

Oh, yeah, sure BluRay is only a marginal step up from VHS.

It's all a money making scam...

Don't really understand the hate for Blu-ray.
It's a step up in quality and enabled PS3 games to never require a second disc.
    Where's the problem?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,068 ✭✭✭Tipsy McSwagger

No one cares about bluray movies :P, it's a dead in the water format.

It's the internet. People don't have to think about what they say, or stick around for the funny looks and questions.

Personally, I dont care for Blu-Ray movies. Obviously the quality is better but I'm not that fussed. Games however, Blu-Ray all the way! For now anyway. Look at the amount of 360 games that required 2 or more discs. Did any PS3 games need more than 1 disc? None that I have anyway.

Wow can see Gandalf's nose clearer than normal DVD... emmense that you are so easily satisfied.

Meant to clarify, Blu-Ray for movies is what I am giving out about.

    Blu-Ray,
    3D

Ugh, make something useful, these are pointless "enhancements"

    Crisper visuals = yes

    Benefit = none

*makes NO difference to a movie, is as big a jump as moving from a Ford Focus to a Mondoe

Crisper visuals is a benefit to the viewer in my opinion.
If you don't like it, don't buy them. Stick to DVDs. I just don't see why someone would opt for an inferior viewing experience.
