Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mansfield Town v Liverpool FC - the Romance of the Cup at 4 pm ESPN

Hi ho, if there was a cup game that screamed ITV tea time it was this tie, not West Ham v Manchester Utd as decent as it was. Harrumph!

Mansfield Town sit 9th in the Conference and are up to their ears in debt (a replay would be the idea result for them) they are on a decent run of form in the league and will of course be playing their best 11 today. Liverpool will just look to get through this without any traumas. The twitter machine suggests the following

Jones, Wisdom, Robinson, Coates, Carra, Lucas, Allen, Shelvey, Downing, Suso, and Sturridge. which looks like a 4-1-2-3 formation to me with Allen/Shelvey ahead of Lucas and Suso/Downing either side of Sturridge. While he no doubt lacks a bit of sharpness starting Danny boy today is surely a no brainer.

Wonder if Sturridge will be as greedy as ever. Can be so annoying to watch.

    Regardless, football, can't wait.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,808 ✭✭✭Caveman1

If Sturridge plays I reckon he'll bag himself a brace of goals.

I can't see any upset in this one.

Welbeck yesterday, and possibly Sturridge today....could be a weekend workshop on how not to play team football.

Didn't watch the game yesterday so can't comment on it.

Time will tell in anyways, 3 or 4-1 to Liverpool I'd say.

Perfect game to get Sturridge up and running and full of confidence. No brainer to start him in this one.

Liverpool should win this within first 30 minutes. 5-6 nil.

10-0 and 98% possession, the perfect day out.

I doubt it'll be as easy and pleasant as predicted here. A couple of early goals for Liverpool would be nice though.

Nah don't think Mansfield will score ten. Maybe four at a push. ;)

It makes me extremely nervous when our fans get cocky.

If we win today we will have beaten a top ten team so I am hoping for a great result.

    I predict Liverpol with 100% possession, Mansfield 1 - 0 Pool

Could well be as tight as the semi final against Wycombe Wanderers in 2001 or the game against Tranmere that came before the Wycombe game.

I get nervous when Liverpool play non league teams.

It started when they went 2-1 down at home to Havant and Waterlooville a few years ago. That was an an uncomfortable day.

There's a few more like Luton, Havant & Waterlooville & Northampton. Class usually shows in the end but they're never usually as easy as people think. I think the key is obviously to get the early goal and it should be relatively plain sailing from there

Happy enough with that line up. Solid second string side, but with a few key strong first teamers.

    Starting XI :

Jones, Wisdom, Robinson, Carragher, Coates, Lucas, Allen, Shelvey, Suso, Downing, Sturridge.

    Liverpool subs:

Gulacsi, Suarez, Henderson, Sterling, Coady, Skrtel, Flanagan.

    No Sahin!

No Sahin is an absolute joke. Unless Rodgers says he's injured, he's definitely gone.

I'm beginning to suspect Wenger will be glad he missed out myself. Wouldn't be the first time a much touted Johnny Foreigner completely failed to cope with the English game or turned out to be homesick or otherwise out of sorts.

Mansfield woman would wreck your head. She's probably still talking.

Just saw the clip of her on Football Focus. Actually thought she looked older than she is. Reading up though she's an ex-escort lady with escort name "Luelle" for wealthy clients and is now the youngest Chief Exec in English football. Throw in the fact that she's married the 45-yr old chairman, drives a ridiculous mirror-looking car, been arrested at her own team's game for shouting abuse at fans and is quite the looker.....can we get Fox to do a series of Being: Mansfield next year do you think?

I rarely say this before a game but if I can't say it against a team 5 divisions below us then.....

We should win this comfortably enough....
