I run a small b&b in Dublin and have happily been serving up lidl glensallagh sausages pudding and thick cut bacon for the past few years. With oldhausen gone the replacement in Lidl is beyond rank.

I would never serve up something I wouldn't eat myself!

Looking for suggestions for bargain priced yummy sausages. can't abide brannigans and superquinn is too expensive. Liked the look of these but want something more local to Dublin if possible

Thanks for any suggestions and best wishes for 2013 for any oldhausen employees. Don't know what went wrong there....

Can't offer you any alternative, but have to agree that the sausages they stock now are awful, pure slush

They used to be award winning - ridiculous substitution :(

Someone mentioned on another thread that the new Dunnes Finest sausages (which used to be Olhausen too) are even higher pork content now. I haven't tried them yet but they should be worth a try.

Failing that, find a good local butcher who makes their own and they should be tasty and good value. If you explain your situation you might even get some kind of discount.

tbh the local Butcher is the way to go plus they have great value breakfast deals

    Thanks for the advice guys

I have used a local butcher for stop-gap ( top quality but pricey compared with Lidl) but I will see about negotiating a deal.

I use the English Market in Cork and a lot of the meat in one particular shop is from McCarthys in Kanturk. Though not all their stuff is to my liking, the quality of their stuff is very good.

    Hooray!

They still had the weird 'straight' replacement sausages in Lidl today. I meant to look and see who was making them but forgot. Let's hope the original ones make a hasty return!

Great to see that Olhausens and Kearns will be back in stores... If you were ever thinking about buying from McCathy's of Kanturk though I couldn't recommend their products highly enough, I've not tried their sausages but their puddings are beautiful!

Anything with a high stated Irish pork content are usually good. Truly Irish are good and do real blood pudding (not dried). Prue and Simons are excellent.

Many of these specialist Irish producers do supermarket special promotions so you could buy in bulk and freeze them
