Is it possible to stream a movie from above media player located in one room over wifi to a saorview box in another room via a wifi USB reciever plugged into the USB port on saorview box, I have confirmed saorview box will play media from external drive USB d directly to back of box, can someone confirm this is possible and recommend a wifi USB reciever, thanks....

Hmm... I'm open to correction here, but I think in general the Wi-Fi connection on those types of boxes are generally limited to internet connection (Youtube, Netflix, etc.) rather than to files on your home network.

I think what you might be looking for is something like this:

to do this usually both need to support DLNA. Do they?

    found this - http://www.saorview.ie/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/A4_TSC114.pdf
if thats your Triax, it doesnt have DLNA support. Basicly, only directly connect HDD's will play movies, so not a network meda storage device.

just to clarify, whats the model of the seagate multimedia device? link?

That's the link to the media player I have

    http://www.seagate.com/em/en/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/goflex-home/

My question is that if I plugged a wifi reciever into the USB on the saorview box would this allow me to stream my movies from the seagate to the saorview box

Another option I was going to explore was to run a cat5e through the attic and make off USBs at either end thus hard wiring the 2 units, can this be achieved and have you any idea what would be max distance of lead allowed?????

Unfortunately it doesn't actually pick up any channels - this one is purely for streaming video content on your home network to your TV.
It basically converts a standard TV to a smart TV.
