    enjoyed that..

    What story?

I assume you're joking, but for the record, Jack's story interests me. I'd like to see how he's going to get out of the sh*tter. I want to see what happened to the dead lad. I think as a premise it genuinely has promise.

I think you've nailed it! I think Mrs French is just in there as a decoy. She plays no part to the story line at all, I think they must've thought she'd be the serious eye candy. Her priorities and moods are all over the place, makes the least amount of sense.

    This thread is hilarious!

I actually edited my original post to include more : )))

Lord god, I haven't a clue what's going on. Bird gets baps done, rich dudes, broke dudes, murder, lad lyin on a pitch, attempted suicide, friendly bailiffs, people trying to jump walls, fancy gaffs, poshos, troublesome teens, the zoo, old people, neighbours, guards, rugby, banks, far away shots of galway city, affairs, dodgy older bird, dodgy drug lad, kids, characters coming at ya from all angles and no explanation of who they are, etc etc etc. haven't a breeze.

Go here for all the low down. Here is just 1 quote "and I think everyone’s going to enjoy these people and hopefully they’ll want to see them again and again "

Leigh Arnold plays Catriona French...socialite, large chest...

Leigh Arnold went out with Mr. Orange as did ...Katy French(RIP)...

    Hmmm...

I think Leigh was prob one of the better actors/actresses in this support cast very poor

    I thought Jack was good.

    Excessive cursing in the show.
As little was said, if they took out the curse words, there'd be even less!

My wife just came out to the living room there- "What was so funny? Was it any good? What was it about?"

    "I have no fùcking idea!"

Funniest show I have seen in a long time. Bloke walks out of scene fully clothed, two minutes his later he is at a party with his top off trying to climb a wall to get away from the cops. Gold.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,751 ✭✭✭newballsplease

There was so many things that happened with no explanation (and something tells me will never be explained)

    The jumpin over fences?
The lads taking money for people seeing the body.
Jack txtin his wife that he was in the sports ground to fake his death...why? Is he a prankster !!
Theres others but im not arsed. I found it funny actually. Jacks sons acting was by far the worst.

    That was weird alright.

Not to mention Jack trying to kill himself (or was it mean to be fake?) at a rugby ground and being found in the middle of the pitch unconscious. Wakes up and he's grand. Not a mention of it afterwards. Jack gets on with his day. You would imagine that would be kinda a big deal.

    Madness............. but strangely compelling.
The musical soundtrack is decent I have to say.

Can TV3 do anything right? Awful stuff. I'm glad I was not the only one lost.

Who produced/wrote? I'm waiting for someone to reveal that it was a transition year project. Fair City may have bad acting but at least it has a structured story. There has to be some explanation for this - TV3?

Highlight for me had to be when the murder victim was carted out of the house in a coffin. No need for an autopsy, sure we'll just bring him to the funeral home, it'll be grand! Do we have any idea who was actually killed? Are Leigh Arnold and her daughter living in the crime scene house now? Is that what that mysterious no. 1 key was about? It's like a David Lynch thriller!
Loving the thread commentary, so guess I will have to watch again next week!

It might have helped if we were introduced to him before he met his end so that it might have some resonance, but I guess it's all part of the 'deception'.
Anyway, on this most miserable of days, this has really cheered me up!

I put my confusion throughout down to missing the first 10mins. This thread has cheered me up considerably! If this is what passes for writing I'm submitting my Lesbian Robot Wars screenplay to TV3 tomorrow

It's moving fairly fast...I mean the story. Lots of scenes lasting 30 seconds which nothing much added to the story.

Love all the Ros na Run actors speaking English...messes with my mind.

Pretty big cast all the same...watch the body count rise in this one!

Watched the first ten minutes. Wooden acting. Dodgy scriptwriting. Whoever directed it should be fired. Also might be no harm in sacking the camera men. Appallingly bad.

Deception cost €1.2 million to make and was half funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland’s (BAI) Sound and Vision Fund.

I doubt that very much so. Better maybe because it was so terribly awful.

I did not feel there was excessive cursing plus cursing is now more common in our daily speech.

For some cursing is their only form of punctuation!:)

The excessive swearing reminded me of The Sopranos edited for tv:

I think I saw on the sign at the entrance to the estate:

Yeah their use of the name "Catriona French" jumped out at me straight away too, couldn't be closer to Katy French if they tried. Surely Leigh Arnold would have copped this too - deliberate to maybe get a bit of controversy/press/publicity for the show?

There's also a high profile developer with the same family name.. personally I think that's more pertinent than the link to Katy French

Oddly enough Leigh Arnold was the next one to take up with the late Katy French's ex Marcus after they split, surprised she didnt strenuously object to the character name

Leigh Arnold is pregnant now but wasnt when the series was filmed, her belly is from her previous pregnancy which wasnt long beforehand. The reason I know this is she complained about it in a newspaper at the weekend that she hadnt liked the costumes as she was self concious about the tummy, but the script called for a slighty rough young middle aged woman of new money who had had too much work done and who wore tarty clothes. Bang on so.

As for the show itself, several well regarded actors should've died a bit with every word they spoke in that rubbish. It was truly awful stuff and would make Fair City and Shortland Street look like West Wing.

Interesting point about the BAI contribution. I remember Mark Cagney one morning long ago on TV3 having a rant about people sneering at TV3 programming and the advantage RTE had with the licence fee resources. He said they were overlooked for awards all the time and it was unfair that they werent recognised for productions on a budget and that the 'creative' talent at TV3 would do wonders with a licence fee. Well there you go Mark, they got a wedge of it and produced an absolute turd. Bit like Ireland AM really.

coudnt agree more, i wasn't expecting much tbh , it proved to be really bad , terrible acting that would make fair city look realistic.

So so bad. Coffin, the zoo, the fact that a dad was off to kill himself and happily says "see ya later" to the daughter. The alarm goes off in house so she turns it off, so they changed the gate code but not the alarm.
Its like the writers said sure feck it it'll do

Is this the first scripted drama TV3 have ever produced?

I know they made a film a few years ago that was pretty atrocious as well, 'Belonging to Laura'.

Handy guide to the characters here:

    http://www.tv3.ie/shows.php?request=deception

    :D

Also, the viewing figures were 506,000.

Noticed that myself last night as well. The non-sequitir dialogue, weird periods of silence followed by trying to cram as much ****e talk in as possible.

They don't have the luxury of €170 a year from every household....
Some serious coin went into this from BAI grants.

Looks like they also shook down local businesses for product placement. I noticed them blurring out signs (the man with sign outside Easons) or taping over the name (Galway Taxis got the gaffer tape treatment).

Of course his X5 had no petrol. It's a diesel model.

I also admire the way Jack was such a badass that he was able to drive in the gate of the Sportsground that's never usually open during the day. Perhaps his magical petrol/diesel hybrid Bimmer can scale walls as well, just like the other cast members.

You could play bingo with the stock scenic shots of Galway, Circular Road has never worked so hard.

Be fair. The show was "part-funded by the Sound a Vision" fund thing. The sound and vision fund is itself a tiny slice of the licence fee, the amount gotten for this show is more than likely a tiny slice of the overall fund, and amount gotten from the fund is only a slice of the €1.2million it cost.

I think writing it off as a "turd", based on one episode is harsh. I remember people saying the exact same about Love/Hate series 1, and now everyone is fit to hump RTE's leg over it.

The episode was far from good, but I believe there is potential there.

And Deception provided more entertainment in that one hour than Fair City has ever provided, so I won't begrudge TV3 some of the licence fee to try something new as opposed to putting out the tripe that RTE consistently does. :P

Exactly, its a 3 part series, so all we've seen is a third of a turd... a turd of a third... a ninth?
