How cut was the version of deadpool we got in the cinema?

We rarely get cut versions of films in the cinema over here.

Is this film in the same universe as.... I'm not sure which film it is.... there is some lad floating on a rock in space with a purple face and a power gauntlet? Didn't Deadpool win part of that gauntlet in the amusement park place?

Thats Thanos. He's the big big bad in the main Marvel movie universe. Deadpool is the Fox one with the X-Men. I think its a voltron ring he won

    Film looks great.

It is so good to be able to watch a film that is 18's and a superhero film.

Bring on the Boys or Preacher next!!!

Punisher was goof at 15's I thought, Warzone was ok. Some comics will work better with violence and cursing and so on.

Is Deadpool officially part of the X-Men universe? And if so, which timeline (love his reference to that too btw)?

Seeing as the new X-men timeline is still back in the 80s, it's unlikely we'll see Deadpool feature in an X-Men movie any time soon... though the
    Cable
rumour for the sequel could solve that :)

The new X-Men timeline (as in, the new timeline based on the ending of Days of Future Past where Cyclops, Jean Grey etc are now alive again). So Deadpool is happening in that timeline in the present day, and XMen Apocalypse will be happening in the same timeline but 30 years ago in the 80s.

(they really screwed up the timelines with the Xmen franchise. As loathe as I would be to normally suggest it, they should have just rebooted the series with First Class and ignored the previous films entirely)

Anyway, even though they're pushing ahead with Deadpool 2 (probably featuring Cable), Ryan Reynolds is also pushing for an X-Force movie (as Deadpool is more associated with being on that team than with the actual X-Men themselves)

Lots of fun and some hilarious moments but..

    THIS!!

It's a terrible thing to criticize is people's enjoyment of a movie.. but my God, it's good to see it wasn't just the screening I was at that was full of people heartily belly-laughing at moments that were definitely worth a smirk or smile at the most!

Still, I'm not going to criticize the excellent movie for that!

Great fun and clearly a movie that was made with a lot of love (and the cast and crew looks like they'd great fun doing it).. bring on the sequel!

Have to admit, I was one of the people belly-laughing. Could not stop cackling and sniggering my way through the whole thing.

Easily the most fun I've had in the cinema in AGES... maybe ever :)

I think what Singer did with the timelines was genius, a pure "when life gives you lemonade, make lemons" situation that single handedly gave a send off to the old cast and reinvigorated the franchise after the X-3 mess, 2 poor Wolverine spin offs and a decent but not earth shattering First Class. There was no way to fix the timeline problems that existed prior to DoFP but at least now those errors can largely be ignored.

Back to Deadpool, the X-Force route would be great as you'd have a separate team to the X-Men (greatly expanding the FOX Marvel Universe... is there an acronym for that? FMCU?) but I still think it'd be cool to see him alongside the more "do-goody" X-Men.

That bit I didn't really have an issue with. To be honest, the Wolverine Origins film screwed up things more than anything else. Emma Frost was shown in it in the 70's as a young teenager, then she appears in First Class as January Jones in the 60's. Quicksilver is shown in WO in the mid 70's as an even younger teenager (maybe about 12 or so) then in DOFP (also mid 70's) in maybe his late teens/early 20's but completely different. They CGI Patrick Stewart into WO even though we're still going to see him as McAvoy in the 80's. They had Ryan Reynolds, as Deadpool in the 70's even though he's now in the present day, also played by Ryan Reynolds. And Gambit was in the 70's as Taylor Kitsch even though the new Gambit film with Channing Tatum will probably be present day. We've also had Toad in the 70's (DOFP) and the early 2000's (X1).

The problem with the X-continuity isn't so much the story, it's the recycling of different characters in different time periods with different actors. Obviously they didn't have the foresight to know how long the franchise would go etc, but when they got to First Class and were going for a different time period and different actors, they should have just drawn a line in the sand and ignored everything that came before.

As someone who has grown to despise comic book films, it was enjoyable. I could definitely watch it again due to the shear wealth of jokes being bombarded. The humour slightly missed the mark for me in general, it tried a bit too hard but it was absolutely hilarious at times. The scene intimidating the stalker kid was brilliant for one.

I did find myself sighing and groaning at the typical super hero ****e in it though. I actually had no idea this was part of xmen going in so was a bit disappointed to discover that. The villans were absolutely dreadful. Utterly black and white pure evil nonsense characters. They serve a distinct purpose to create a story arc and build to a crescendo. Fine. I find it so shallow and ultimately forgettable. The token xmen characters added nothing for me either. Why am I watching giant metal man fighting mute matchstick woman.

It's definitely a step above with the humour alone.

    It's actually only 16's .
If flying brain matter and unicorn masturbation can't get you an 18's cert nowadays then what can.
Loved it though and forgot how hot Gina Carano was.

Pretty cool walk through from Tim Miller and his take on a DC showdown.
It was this that brought him to the attention of Fox/Marvel.

Loves a comic does Tim :pac:

Saw it there yesterday. I liked it. It's about what I would have expected from a Deadpool movie. I'm glad that Ryan Reynolds has really found his calling as Deadpool. I hate how the continuity has been messed up though. Like we're supposed to forget about Wolverine Origins. Even if it was a terrible movie, I would have liked these movies to be more consistent because it just ruins the magic for me.

The continuity mistakes can be explained away by X-Men: Days of Future Past.

They really can't. A couple of them, sure, but there are multiple iterations of the same characters in different time periods that can't be explained away by DOFP.

Went to see the film today. Have to say I really enjoyed it. Would I give it 5 out of 5 no 4 maybe as there was a bit in the middle that was not great no it was not that bad feck it I think 5 out 5. It was very funny if it had of been the same film and no humour then it would have been hard to watch maybe. The last 30 to 40 min especially were really good lots of action and still funny too. Can,t wait for Deadpool 2.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Nice little reference to that in the movie...

Really didn't think I'd like this, if anything the trailer put me off. But the good word of mouth and high score on RT convinced me to at least give it a go.........and I'm really glad I did. I absolutely loved it. The one liners are funny but it's actually got a pretty good story going on there. And the relationship between wade Wilson and his girlfriend really works, like they have serious chemistry. I reckon the whole thing would not have worked had the chemistry not been so good between them.
If you haven't see this and you think it might not be for you, go anyway, there's a good chance you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Since there is talk about a sequel, I wonder would it be worth it to introduce Bob, Agent of Hydra. I loved those stories with Deadpool and Bob. Plus you've already got a potential villain for the sequel in Hydra.

They already introduced him, he pops up during the finale and there'll be no Hydra given that Marvel still have those rights

In an interview they stressed how it really really is just a normal carrier at the end and not a helicarriar as they couldn't even get rights to that

Interesting they were allowed in. Notices up all over the place in the new Omniplex in Dundalk that if you were under 16 you weren't getting in, period.

As for the film itself, good fun. First time I can remember Ryan Reynolds since Blade 3.

Deadpool is now the highest grossing XMen movie in America, it did that without a PG13 rating or 3D ticket price increases.
Considering it cost a lot less than those, it will easily be the most profitable.

Delighted! Here's hoping they don't throw a sh!tload more money at the sequel and ruin it with studio interference and whatnot.

Even if they pumped $100M into its marketing budget which I doubt as Fox estimated it to make $65M! They are making a hell of a lot of money on a great movie!

It was everything I hoped it would be. Perfectly loyal to the comics. You could see a lot of work went into it and thank God they didn't PG13 it as it wouldn't have resembled Deadpool in the slightest then.

Loads of 4th wall breaking but think my favourite had to be the
Professor X joke - "Stewart or McEvoy I'm getting confused with the timelines". Also the nods to **** Deadpool from Wolverine & Green Lantern addressed the **** elephant in the room well.

Hopefully it will show that non-PG13 movies can work. As much as I loved Guardians of the Galaxy, the source material gets dark in places so seeing that with the same rating for the second movie would be brilliant. Will never happen, but would love to see it.

    Favourite line:
It's such a big house and it's funny I only see the two of you.. it's almost like the studio couldn't afford another X-Man!"

Crossed the $500m mark today at the box office.

With a budget of $58 million and a take so far of $513 million, does this make it one of the most profitable film ever?

Or are there loads like this already?

Either way, Fox weren't expecting this.

Superhero movies were getting really stale and samey until Deadpool turned up, glad it's such a huge success. :D

Fingers crossed that Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad can deliver too. :)
