Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi guys,

I read a recent thread on here regarding time off on weekends, I want to make this very clear, I don't want any nonsense arguments in this thread, I am simply looking for some actual advise and not a troll fest.

I work in a position where I work
three weeks of Monday - Friday
one week of Monday - Wednesday / Saturday & Sunday
    per month.

There is nothing stated in my contract which restrict's booking one of my 30 allotted holiday days per year on a Saturday or Sunday.

I have requested a weekend off to attend a function, and I was told that this won't happen, and that I won't get a weekend off work.

Can anyone give me any advise on this?

I don't work in retail / hospitality. I work in IT.

    Thanks in advance.

Can't you get someone to swop weekends?

There might be nothing in your contract but are you willing to get on the bad side of your superior over this you might win the battle but you'll never win the war

The company has the right to decide your holidays; you don't have the right to decide your holidays. Sorry but it's pretty clear cut in this case and yes before someone else chimes in the company has to take into account your social life etc. but that still don't stop them as you got three weekends off every four weeks.

Completely understand that I don't decide when I get time off, and that's why people have to request time off well in advance to give the company time to arrange proper cover.

But to be told straight out that no weekend off is ever available, is that unreasonable or is it standard practice?

Thanks for the responses so far, much appreciated!

If you do one weekend a month is there other guys who work the other weekends?

Might be worth asking one of them to cover for you.

Going by memory (dangerous thing to do!) you should have the right to two consecutive weeks off during a year; this would obviously need to include weekends so what would happen if one of those weeks were the "weekend" week in the company (i.e. has it happened before)? What about sick leave etc.? I'm not saying it's not impossible to arrange cover but it may be a royal pain in the behind and this may be the reason behind "no holidays on weekends" policy in the first place.

wel it may be because whoever covers it then has to do 2 weekends that month, that's not really fair. In saying that, what would happen if someone looked for 2 weeks hols which happened to fall on the weekend they were scheduled?
A swap would seem to be the the simplest solution, is that possible?

    IMHO, unreasonable

    Thanks for the responses everyone!

Going on this, I will seek to swap a shift with a colleague instead of attempting to push for holidays.

    Thanks so much.

Thread can be closed in case it turns out like the previous thread.
