Opening second account

Hi all,

I'm trying to save a bit of money this year so I am going to open a second account. Each month, I'll transfer a set amount of money to this account and that will be the money I have available for that month to spend.

Direct debits etc will remain on my existing account.

Currently I have a graduate account with AIB but I'm wondering if anyone has any input on where would be best to open this account?

I don't need any of the added extras like free restaurant meals every so often, flights or any of that.

I do however need a Visa debit card. Don't want any Laser nonsense.

Anyone guide me on which bank and type of account is best for this sort of thing?

Laser is pretty much dead. UB/pstb/AIB/BOI are no longer issuing them. NIB/Danske are migrating also.

So really, any bank. The only one that currently is "fee free" is Ulster, for however long that lasts.

If you're trying to save money, would you not just open a savings account and keep your current account? AIB have an online savings account, you can apply through your internet banking, very easy to lodge money from your current account then. Rabobank are another savings alternative.
