After a recent break in we are looking to install a house alarm with spprox 8 to 10 PIR sensors.

House is semi detached and would be a complete new install. We have no eircom landline only UPC phone and broadband.

Is there a system available that can send an SMS text to designated phones to alert people of an alarm?

Have already consulted an alarm contractor who surveyed and informed us that we need the eircom line in order to get SMS capability. Is this true?

Would also prefer not to pay monthly monitoring costs.

    Thanks in advance

Firstly I would look at perimeter protection before PiRs. With PiRs the alarm won't activate until someone is in the house. By then the damage is done.
With UPCs line you could have a voice dialler that will call you & play a message.
The only other option is using a GSM dialler is you want text alerts.

The perimeter protection is going to be more expensive depending on the amount of windows and doors but offers the most security.

A ready to go sim would work out cheaper if using a GSM.
The UPC phone will work with most systems for voice.
