Not sure if this is the right forum; possibly comes under the remit of business mgmt.

So, we have a standard Dust mat (3*5 feet) at our shop entrance and it's changed by the rental company twice a week. We would have 100-200 people walking through the door per day, it's a standard shop in town (no filthy boots being dragged in generally!)

The cost per week is €20, I'm just wondering how often other retailers change their dust mats? And generally how much does it cost? Just seems excessive to be paying €1k per annum on door mats.

we had similar situation, changed to one change every fortnight instead of weekly.no need whatsoever for them to be changed twice a week.

I know this response is coming a bit late but I've just seen the thread and can help with this. I work for a specialist matting company called Footfall. We're based in Galway and we retail a lot of dust mats throughout Ireland. Buying your own dust mats is a cost-effective alternative to rental mats and will provide significant saving over the years.

For example, we sell a fantastic dust mat called WOM Original which is the same (if not better) quality as most rental mats. WOM Original mats are washable at high temperatures and have 100% nitrile rubber backing so they are very durable and will last for years. WOM Original won't loose performance, looks or shape even if you wash them again and again. If they don't fit into your machine at home you could bring them to a launderette for washing in an industrial machine instead and save on rental or cleaning costs altogether. Vacuuming the mats daily will also go a long way in helping to maintain the mats easily and cost-efficiently.

We have an online shop <snip> where you can buy ex. stock dust mats, which can be rolled up and stored when not in use. We have a range of nitrile rubber backed mats and PVC backed mats to suit all budgets. Something to seriously consider if rental mat costs are adding up!

If you have any questions at all on matting - whether fixed or loose matting - myself or one of my colleagues here would be delighted to help you.

    All the best,
    Dawn

A retailer bringing mats to a launderette, paying for them to be cleaned and then having to go back to collect (and needing a spare set while the first set is in the laundrette) isn't a cost saving in my opinion.

We bought our own, Hooeved every couple of days and when they get actually grubby, a bit of fairy liquid and good strong brush and the just hose off and hang to dry!!

If the OP is still paying €20 a week for the clean they should get on to the company! We've been quoted €3.50 per clean!

    Thanks for your reply, Bandara.

If it is a matter of cost over convenience for customers, than there are big cost savings to be made by buying your own mats. For instance, the customer who was paying €20 p.w. for a standard 5ft x 3ft rental mat was seeing costs of over €1000 p.a, where as one of these mats costs less than €70 ex. VAT to purchase and would be expected to last on average 5 years. Yes, there would be effort involved in vacuuming and organising the washing of the mats but the reality of the cost savings would make that worthwhile for a lot of customers.

Even if a retailer just opted to have their own mats collected and cleaned every week or two it would still lead to savings over rental mats.
