Booster Injection/Kennels

Heya. My Springer was due his booster injections in December, but with the madness just before Xmas I never booked him in to have them done yet. I was going to bring him to get them done before the end of this week. The only thing is I have to put him in Kennels next Friday because of a party that is happening in the house. I would feel much better knowing he is safe int he kennels rather than the risk of lots of people coming in and out of the house and him getting out (Which unfortunately did happen once before when someone opened the front door and the gate of the garden wasn't closed properly). But anyway, should I get him his injections before he goes into kennels or should I wait untill after next Friday?

Also there is a Kennels in Malahide called Estuary Kennels, I'm wondering has anyone had any experience with them. He's not been in a Kennels in Dublin before. But these look good, large runs with a little indoor section to them, but I've never used them so I don't know what they are really like.

    Thanks a mill :)

kennels won't take him without up to date vaccinations, so I'd get him done asap. I think you have 6 weeks grace with the annual booster, so I'd try and get him in today.

Thanks ISDW, I will get on it now :) And would he be ok to mix with other dogs in just over a week?

Ask your vet, but as its just a booster, its just continuing the coverage he already has. If you leave it too long, you'll have to start again from the beginning, with one vacc, then another 2 weeks later.

I rang up there a little while ago and it's all sorted. Cheers for the reply :)

Hope you get some answers about Estuary Kennels, we put our dog in there, but it was about 30 years ago, and I'm sure its changed since then. :)

Please please please don't put him in Estuary Kennels, I wouldn't put a rat in there. It's all concrete runs, with a stable door type system on the sleeping area but the doors are never shut so basically there's a door shaped hole between the sleeping area and the run area so there's virtually no protection from the weather, I don't think there is heating either but not 100% sure on that. The runs are hosed down from the outside while the dogs are still in them, and they're never taken out for walks. Grim place. The club where I do agility rents a field in Estuary kennels so I see them every week.

Have to agree with Toomanydogs, i was down there doing obedience classes. And went to agility a few times to socialise my dog. I was there for 4 hours one day and the dogs were never out of the runs. Theres a lot of work machinery around there so its unlikely they get let out. There is also a big field there but with horses it in so doubt they are let out there. And I saw what I presume were the owners sons lashing around on quad bikes in the fields so again couldnt see them letting dogs on the loose there.

Also backs on to the recycling centre at Swords so there is constant noise so no peace for the dogs.

I live 5 mins from the place so it would be handy. But instead i drive 30 mins uptowards Louth to leave my dog with Beabeg Dog Boarding because I'm just not taking a chance!

Thanks for the replies. I would be dropping him down in the evening after a walk and collecting him in the morning. So the walks wouldn't be a huge deal. But it doesn't sound like a great place.

Is there anywhere else on the Northside of Dublin you would recommend?

Best Kennels in Garristown. I know's the guy that runs it has got some stick on here before because some people found him abrupt. I found him pleasant and helpful. And the place is very clean. Left my dog in there for 3 days with no problems.

Beabeg Boarding might be too far for you. But I found them great. I've left my dog up there plenty of times in the last 6 months since i discovered them. I prefer her to be in with people than out in runs all the time. And they take them for plenty of walks.

+1 for Best Kennels, I know Declan and the phrase "good with dogs, sh!te with people" could have been written about him! His place is fantastic though and the dogs do get regular walks.

oh the only one thing I will say about Best Kennels is the rigidness of the drop-off and pick up times might not suit. Has to be between 9 -10 and 5 - 6 as far as I recall.
