New day any phones arrive today any reviews etc?

Absolutely devastated to say that my G5S came today and has to be faulty, as the android keyboard simply doesn't appear when I try to input any form of text.

Whether it be editing contacts, trying to browse or when I try to send a text the keyboard isn't there, I click smileys and I can insert then and then I click the little keyboard icon and still no joy!

I was considering doing a factory restore but it's running the ego talk mod rom and is unlocked + rooted so I don't know whether that'll duck things up as this is my first android.

Guess I'll be sending it back and if etotalk don't cover the Dhl, a quick paypal dispute will be done.

How do I go about that ? Download the .apk onto PC and transfer to the phone?

    Any good keyboard recommendations?

Pretty sure the standard android keyboard is up on the play store.
Just go in and download it and set it as your default keyboard. It should wipe the previous version of it

Try this if you can connect your phone or sd card to your computer, open this webpage: http://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/ then go to Google Play and copy the url for google keyboard or any other free keyboard you like, paste the url in the page you have opened and download the apk, copy the apk to your sd card or phone and install the keyboard apk, you may need to allow Unknown Sources in Settings - Security.

    Hope that helps

Download a keyboard apk to memory card and put it in phone, then search for it using file manager

Does the Jiayu G5 have USB on-the-go? I think it does. They might have given you an adapter with it, you can plug any USB device, including a keyboard into your phone and use it while trying to get this sorted.

Alot of people are going to nitpick about similarities with the Oppo 7A but I think that if this could be a real alternative to the nexus if not alot of flagship phones

They have European distribution so I'm hoping that the price stays low

Seems they have confirmed prices at €269. Thats a remarkable phone for that money

$299/€269 for the 16GB model, and $349/€299 for the 64GB flavor; both due mid to late May. See http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/23/oneplus-one-launch-ceo-pete-lau-interview/#continued

Question, my better half bought an iOcean X7 last year, which when working is a very very good phone,

But it has some major issues basically it seems to always think that it's roaming and it also seems to completely lose network when you join or leave wifi, I know I'm being a bit a vague but has anyone had any issues similar at all with any of the chinese phones maybe there is something obvious that we are missing.

I lose 3G/H a few times a day, the roaming thing can be turned off I think.

Have you tried a new sim in the phone. Alot of people unintentionally damage their sim when they swap it into a new phone. That would be my first check

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,935 ✭✭✭✭Thargor

It wont be the sim, have you selected your network in the "preferred networks" in settings? I had a lot of trouble with 3 in the early days until I did that, switching over to roaming when it sensed a weak signal but refusing to switch back.

Weak signal could be the sim. I'm not saying its definitely it but it is all related. He could check his sim in the phone to eliminate this
(Worked in Vodafone customer care for a time and know how sims can affect phones)

Thanks for the replies. I successfully installed Google keyboard and it's flying now will post a review after a few charges but I have to say the 3000mAh looks the real deal already!

Now the only thing I need to decide is what mobile internet to use I'm giving 48 a go now just waiting on them to move my number.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 9,634 Mod ✭✭✭✭mayordenis

This looks like a great phone for the price, following this thread for months and still would need a bit of advice before buying.

the review of it is here

If this is not suitable or you think it's not good, can you tell me why? So I know in future. Thanks.

Love to hear how the N2 is once you get a chance to check it out

I'm waiting for one from mixeshop shipped on the 17th EUEXP

Anyone know how to check progress with the tracking number?
Mixeshop had shipping guide before but the link seems to go nowhere now

Theres a JIayu a few pages back that would probably offer the same specs from a more trusted brand

Like seannash just said, I would go with the Jiayu brand instead. It's the same price.

Jiayu have recently updated the processors of the G4 and G5. The G4 phone has slightly smaller screen (4.7 inch) but much bigger battery, Gorilla Glass screen and probably better build quality than the Jiake.
