Actually, I was looking at one. 16gb is plenty for me, and the price is good. Nexus 5 is currently at least €100 more.

I didn't think that the difference is that big. I have seen the Nexus for around £230

Pots & kettles. You posted that you had ordered a phone & were hoping to avoid customs.

You then posted to complain that customs had done their job properly.

haaaaaaaaa....if its not the classy DD, with his large axe to grind...because I exposed you as the low balling, bottom feeder that you are, and when I turned down your offer, you turned nasty. ahhh, classy DD, real classy you are.

There is speculation that the Nexus will drop in price as the Mi3 increases.

Id be shocked to see a Mi3 price increase tbh, when does that ever happen?

Would anyone be able to recommend a good phone for a €200 budget? Ideally it would have good battery life and working GPS (as that seems to be a problem with some of these Chinese phones!)

Moto G is the standard response. From Meteor, Vodafone, Tesco etc.

What's the difference between that and the Jiayu G4S?

G4S seems slightly cheaper only reason I ask.

Bigger, higher res screen, 4g, better processor, but weedier battery.

Very tempted to buy this now, but how weedy is the battery? Would it last a day under normal to heavy usage?

Does the G4S not have a dodgy GPS reception?

    Nope

I ordered a Jiayu G4S from coolicool which was posted from the Netherlands.
It arrived in the Dublin mail office yesterday but is now marked 'sent to customs'.
    I'm a bit worried now :(

Would this be worth going over-budget for instead?

Worried about what, surely you were not trying to avoid paying vat on your purchases ?

I thought coolicool sent from the E.U meaning no customs to pay?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,734 ✭✭✭horse7

I dont think so, How are Tax and Customs duties handled? At Coolicool, no products are taxed. However, customs officials inspect shipping packages at random. Coolicool cannot ensure that your package will remain uninspected and the customer will need to pay taxes at the request of authorities. Coolicool is not responsible for the package which return back or destroy by local custom due to The recipient refuse to pay custom duty.

You do have to pay customs, but many of the HK/China sellers mark down the value and have been getting away with it, with no guarantees.

To 'avoid' charges you need to buy from a EU supplier or warehouse, and pay a bit more upfront.

The battery is not meant to be too bad. Because its running KitKat its mean to have less drain on the battery Than previous OS did. I'd suspect you could get a day out of it.

The processor is definitely better, better screen, better camera, nicer looking,4g too.
Jiayu have stalled completely as far as I can see. I dont here of any new upcoming phones. They had less competition a year ago and were always recommended but right now there are better alternatives.

For me its a no brainer. The Nubia is the definite better of the two. I'm not convinced that the GPS issue is fixed on this particular Mediatek processor either but that's just my suspicion

Just one report of bad GPS with the G4S

It doesn't appear to work out of the box

If your pushing up to that amount maybe the OPO would be another option

hardly. sure the OPO is €360 via parcel motel give or take a few euro. This is substantially less for what looks like a superb phone. Might get one myself too now after reading more about them.
