In that bumper he beat Klepht 18 L he won a 50k grade A chase 6 months later rated 144.

To be fair, apparently the times of Teelin Star's P2P backed up the visual performance.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

And in fairness even if the horses he beat had the ability of an 80 rated horse beating them over 100 lengths equates to a high mark

Here's some for this season to look out for,

Midnight Thunder £215,000 full brother to Mala Beach going to Colin Tizzard - won p2p by 6lengths from a horse who himself was sold for £125,000.

Flemenson £190,000 going to Jonjo O'Neill - won only p2p start from Askamore Darsi(who dead heated for 4th with On Blueberry Hill in the p2p behind Minella Foru)

Flemenson is out tomorrow in a novice hurdle at Uttoxeter(3.30).

Midnight Thunder is entered in the bumper at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Flemenson wins at 11/4 on debut.

I backed him, but think he was a bit lucky after Choc Thornton dropping his whip....but very good debut over hurdles

Wonder will Old Kilcash get off the mark tomorrow? Looks a poor race but the best horses don't always win at Downpatrick. The trip should at least be more to his liking.
Also I see Teelin Star entered for the beginners at Thurles next week. Some serious horses entered.

Did you not see Teelin star running about two weeks ago? He is an absolute mule.

Old Kilcash was another one of the cons an owner has been done by in the p2p field,300k for a horse like him is far fetched,Barry Connell has the money but he should have more sense or better advisors.

Of course I seen him last week, I posted about him several times above. I mentioned him again as some on here such as yourself have him down as a yak and others still have the jury out on what his actual ability is. So it will be interesting to see how he gets on as another bad run and there can not really be any more excuses.

He is more likely to be lapped than win if any of these are declared he hasnt a hope

    CORBALLY GHOST
    DON COSSACK
    GOLD BULLET
    MINSK
    ROAD TO RICHES
    ROGUE ANGEL
    SI C'ETAIT VRAI
    CLONBANAN LAD
    BALNASLOW

Maybe only one or two above will run but everyone them would beat him.

Why spend 300k on a gelding who won round a field beating trees when you could get a son of Galileo for the same price

Or even 3 100k purchases chances are one of them will be decent with a bit of luck, old kilcash won today I seen but it was a weak race around that dump cant see him earning 30k of that money back another dud,the million spent on our conor might look expensive if he doesnt live up to expectations, for that million Willie Mullins and Harry Kirk Would go to france and assemble a serious bunch of talent for you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

A million for a gelding is crazy no matter how good he is, he'd have to win 4 champion hurdles and more to make it back. I'd rather get 10 30k horses than a 300k

Cos flat racing is a pile of bollocks :)

Seriously though, for people getting involved in syndicates and the like, the comparative prices of a moderately bred 4 year old NH horse and its 2yo flat equivalent have gone in opposite directions in recent years. The NH getting dearer

Why spend 300k on a gelding who won round a field beating trees and then send him to shark hanlon...it's like buying a Ferrari and giving it to a trainee deli counter mgr in spar to service it

Beaten 66 lengths in the bumper at Cheltenham. Bye bye money. :pac:

This is the thing that struck me most.

Question the logic of a 300k purchase all you like but how the hell could you then send that 300k purchase to Shark FFS

Although this may seem like spreading your risk, this would cost you a lot more in the long run in terms of training and entry fees!!

If your spending 300k on a horse and sending it to Shark, entry fees and training fees somehow I reckon are not an issue. The issue is the mental stability of the person who would do such a thing.

Yeah in fairness if you've 300k to spend on a horse I doubt training costs will matter that much but I understand your point

I think Barry Connell isn't suffering from non compos mentis somehow.

Many big owners are top dog in their respective business worlds and don't want to play second fiddle to any other owner in the racing world either.

Hence Barry deploying his horses with, to a large extent, non JP patronised stables and hiring his own retained jockey so his horse doesn't get snubbed at any stage down the line by a leading trainer/jock for a more favoured one in their yard.

No different to Potts/Lynch, JP/AP etc. Of course Danny Mullins would seem a dubious choice to many in terms of ability but there is history with Danny's parents and the Shark dating back with Connell so it is not an unfounded decision by any means.

It's ridiculous. Lets call a spade a spade.

I was trying to explain the rationale behind patronising the Shark et al, even if I am in agreement with you re his training abilities or lack of them.

a son of Galileo ain't going to win u a gold cup. People who spend mega money on horses are buying them for what they potentially could be. Everything has to go right for that horse to reach the top and it rarely does. These owners are not interested in cheaper horses that could win a couple of handicaps. They are looking for gold cup champion chase horses.

No overnight rain in Wexford so the ground remains yielding. The ground should suit better than the swamp like conditions it has had to run in previously. At 10/1 I think it's worth a gamble.

I could not forgive myself if I lost money on that absolute yoke again

ffs, horse jumped all but one fence perfectly and was cruising at the front while other started to struggle when it fell at the third last.

Anyone still backing this horse at his prices needs to ask them self a few questions. I would advise forgetting about him he has shown absolutely zero under rules to suggest he is anything but well below average.:cool:

His last run was impressive, he was leading up to the third last and travelling well before he fell. The fact the owners are trying to run this horse so soon after the last run suggests they feel the time is right.

Declared for Naas this Saturday btw.

I agree but he has shown absolutely minimal to me to warrant a bet for the foreseeable future. That's just me I understand different people might have different angles but I couldn't be having this horse as a betting proposition.

I agree with Kiers, I was only pointing out that he was running. No intention of backing him though. He was traveling strongly but he still looks like he needs lots of schooling.

Missed the each way prices on this one which is quite annoying

Checked Betfair at 8.30ish and he was quite weak. Just checked now and he's 5.3

The aul lad was up at Champagne Wests p2p win, won hard held by 12 lengths and he was very impressed with him. I know it's hard to look to much into p2p form though. Was actually quite impressed with his debut under rules even though he was beaten, was an absolute bog that day in Ffos Lad and he obviously wants further, don't think he was given the best ride either but he did look one to follow for when he went over hurdles and went a bit further.

Neck Or Nothing cost £200,000 last week

When the horse was bought any bidder would have seen that he was a double figure price for Sunday's bumper (albeit a graded race at Cheltenham). He ran no more than OK, if I was stumping up 200k for a horse I'd want to believe it was potentially better than having a 6% chance of winning a graded bumper tbh

He did attempt to jump the path which ruined his chance. Was still travelling very well at the time and O'Regan didn't ask for anything after it happened.

Bit surprise Roger Brookhouse paid 200k for him but Tom Hogan has professed he is a machine.
