    Hi all,
Looking to buy a present for my wife of getting professional shots of her done.
    Haven't a clue where I should look.
It's not a wedding photographer I'm looking for, as I presume there are some photographers that specialise in this area.
    Anyone any advice?
    Cheers.

Where in the country are you? Lots of studios but no point in recommending one in Cork if you're in Donegal....

if you are looking for something COMPLETELY different, look at Red Tree Studio, but it is very very different ! Went to a meeting in Tallaght Photo Society on Tue evening and one of the guys from Red Tree gave a slideshow Powerpoint insight of how they opperate the studio, very interesting and very different stuff.

North Munster/West Leinster area preferably (Tipperary, Laois, Kilkenny, Limerick).

But if it was in Dublin or Cork and worth the trip, that'd be no problem.

Thanks for replies so far, wasn't sure where to even start looking.
And want something different - not the ordinary photograph that you'd get anywhere.

That is just a little too crazy for me.
A step back from that (maybe two or three steps!).

    Looks great though.

As far as i know the guys there all have "real jobs" but just do all that stuff as a hobby and fun. they run the studio on a No Profit/ No loss basis. When they need to raise funds they sell to various magazines to cover costs. nice bunch of people doing very very different photography. The studio is a very old warehouse, full of various "sets"and props. The warehouse is in Bray. One of the main guys is Karl, sure give him a call and check it out. The warehouse might suit yoour needs.

Her stuff looks much closer to what I'm looking for.
Wonder what kind of cost we're talking about for this kind of photo shoot.

If you were willing to come up to Dublin, well there's me ;)

But I would highly recommend you check out Alex Hutchinson, Anita Sadowska and Richie Buttle(he's actually in Wexford, and I believe he frequents this forum from time to time).

I've shot with a lot of the same models as those guys and everyone raves about them.

Not sure about rates for any of them though.

I've messaged a few of the ones ye have suggested, so hopefully someone will get back to me.

After 100s of **** presents, determined this one will be something she likes!

But be careful, many of such deals are for a shoot and a photo, then you can buy "our platinum package" (or *cough* bronze if you are a cheap skate) when you see how wonderful our graphic design artist has made you look with the high key background and not a wrinkle on your eyes, neck, the enhancement the whiteness of your teeth, etc....

Nothing wrong with any of that if that's what you are looking for, I'm only advising to be careful as to what you are getting for the 'deal' money you pay and how much you might end up paying when you experience the allure of the shiny presentation of someone who looks a bit like you in the photo but you know its not really the real mccoy. I came across someone recently (could have been on these forums) that did such a deal and before time of shooting and at time of shooting they couldn't extract an actual price. It ended in 'tears' if I recall.

I think it's a great present by the way and have done it a number of times myself for others, albeit one caution - be a little sensitive to how the intended recipient may feel about themselves. Should they be going through a phase of "i really need to do x, y, or z, with themselves, new years resolutions to get fit, shape up, get a hair cut...." (or whatever) - even though you may think they are the most perfect person in the world, they might put the photo shoot on the long finger.

Again, a fantastic present, but you know the intended recipient better than anyone so just make sure their general feelings are positively disposed towards themselves before bursting into the room with the male orientated "look what I got you" face on you (emmm.... one male to another :D) and the inevitable "oh look, its an xbox 360 that you got me, eh... thanks" look that ensues. Yes, us males may never understand that look or what brings it on :pac:

    Excellent advice!
I'm fairly confident the present will be greeted positively, though not 100%.
Wherever I choose I want photographs handed over on a disc at the end.
None of this "you can buy more/extra copies" ****e.
