Have come across a bit of a bug. It's in the BoS questline, so don't read the following if you don't want it spoiled:
I was in Arcject Systems with the Paladin and left because I didn't have the required hacker skill to open the door. Went off and did the 'paint the wall' quest for Abbot in Diamond City and levelled up and got the hacker perk. Now when I try to enter Arcject through the front door, I can't.

This is wrecking my head and I don't want to venture too much further in case it never works. Any ideas?

specialising in non automatic rifles is the way to go i think. one hit kills if you've good aim, 2 if you're bad, and saves a lot of ammo.

I did that early, pretty sure the password is found lying around somewhere.

I cleared it earlier in the game, but never opened that door. Couldn't find the password. Looks like my saves bring me back a good bit before that (about 3 levels), don't think I saved from this morning. Balls :(

Actually how do you hack the terminals ? Do you pick a word and then it tells you how many common letters are in both, pick a second and the same happens and then try work it out ?

I'm actually not sure in this one. I've hit words with no likenesses but then hit another word with similar letters in it and there'd be a likeness. The letter could be in the same spot too. Most hacks of mine have been sheer luck and persistence.

    That baffles me too.
But if you select a group that isn't a word, usually inside brackets () <> {} [] then it will remove a dud word or reset your amount of attempts left.

Did a mission with The Detective involving Kellogg.
I just did the mission where you find that Kellogg left Shaun with The Institute, I came out of Fort Hagen and a giant brotherhood of steel ship flew by. Nothing really happened and the ship just kept flying so I fast travelled to Diamond City and the ship is gone.

Can anyone shed some light on that?

I can tell you where it is but do NOT click the below if you don't want significant spoilers.
It's at Boston airport. Not sure if you can enter if without doing the BoS questline, though.

Just exit the terminal after 3 attempts and start again. Brings you back to 4, essentially resetting.

    Yes. That
ship is belongs to the brotherhood of steel. If you are a member at that point due to Paladin Danse, he will bring you up to it in a Ventiberd.

It was a very epic moment to be honest. Shocked the hell out of me.

Also for those asking in the last few pages...Shotguns fall under the Rifleman perk.
You dont have to manual scrap everything, the game will do it automatically.
Hacking is simple when you know how. The "matches" are letters that match and the position they are in. So if the answer to the hack is "BOARDS" .....and you guess "STORES" it will tell you there are 2 matches because the R and S are correct. You can use this to deduce the right answer by guessing a second time and comparing the matches.

Yea it confuses the feck out of me. My brother is a big Fallout fan so I'll ask him over the weekend. I've spent 5 hours playing the game so far and only just got the guys from Commonwealth back to Sanctuary.

But at least the place is tidy and has a lot of water :)

Was it supposed to just appear and fly away with nothing happening?

It's really hard to tell if you've missed parts of the story in these games. I remember in Skyrim I accidentally skipped a big quest by going to the wrong place too early. I never know which quests to do and which not so that I keep a straight flow of the story in my head...

    Yes. It's a pretty oh sh*t moment.
I had actually started the BoS questline by the time I did that part of the main questline
so it was a massive oh sh*t moment for me. If you do the questline I spoilered above you'll find out what it is and what it's doing in the commonwealth.

Decided I don't wanna kit all the houses out...so gonna try build me a huge tower, bit by bit...see how high it can go.
Have all the settlers just live there in my Tenpenny tower...early days yet :) but inside on every floor there is roofs and stairs, and backside also has that window balcony things...I'll build them every 2nd floor.
Just have all the beds 2nd floor, game room or whatever on other etc.
    Lazy and efficient town planning.

there is a height limit, my plan to build a sky scraper and fire nukes off it was ruined. There is a mod that removes the height restriction.

EDIT: Here's a screenshot from on top of it.

Might want to edit that image out , some may like to experience that for themselves in the game 1st, bit spoilery

Have Valentine as my companion at the minute and I'm not getting any XP off his kills.

    Bit annoying.
I'll ship him once we finish his related quests.. Just felt he deserved to be there :D.

You have to "tag" each enemy to get credit. I haven't noticed that problem and I've been using him for a while now (too lazy to change :p ).

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,364 ✭✭✭✭Kylo Ren

For terminals, pick a word. I usually pick the first. It will give you you a number that indicates the likeliness of the word you just chose to the one you're looking for. If it says 1, this indicates that the word you just chose has a letter in the same position as the word you're looking for. The greater the likeliness, the higher the number you'll see.

My strategy is to pick the first word. Hopefully get a 1 or higher. Pick a word that has same letters in the same position as the first word you picked. Most of the time you'll get it in 3 tries. If I don't, I search out the closed brackets () [] {}. By clicking these, it either removes duds or gives you a new set of tries. By the time you've clicked them all, most words are gone and you now have 4 new tries to get it.

Has the brackets thing always worked?.

I've always backed in and out.

Surely its a glitch as taking the max terminal perk is irrelevant if you can click to remove wrong choices.

Well he's done after these quests as at least with Dogmeat and Cait I was getting XP.
    Seems a bug tbh.
