Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dont mean to high-jack the thread OP but I am planning on picking up a new pair of boots sometime soon. The plan was to wait for the RDS.

From what I can see im looking at about 100-150 euros for a decent set of boots. Anybody any tips on what to look out for ?

Try to get an actual pair of GORETEX boots, not the brands equivalent like Dainese D-DRY or HG shelltex etc etc. They are not as good, most good boot brands actually offer GORETEX in the brand aswell as their own...I wonder why?

Yes, it will cost you more but you can get them if you shop around. Alpinestars do a very good touring goretex boot that is very plain but very good. I think the police where them and they are very well priced.

Thanks, wow good to know that. Quick search on ebay and i found then: http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=tcx+ss+sport+waterproof&_sacat=0&_from=R40

I bought these in cotters 2 weeks ago, seem like a good boot but have yet to test them in wet weather. Just watch out though as even though they are 'waterproof' they aren't goretex lined so I'm not sure how waterproof they'll be. Simon said they were shower proof and not expect them to be 100% waterproof like goretex would be.

Shower proof LMFAO, every boot is shower proof. A shower lasts what, on average 10mins...in heavy rain dont forget the water coming up off the bike and flooding boots, and dripping down the leg of textiles sitting on top of the boots. That is the true test....

IF a boot says its waterproof and lets in water, take it back simple. Dont be fooled you are paying for the technology so make sure it works. I have had 2 pairs of Goretex water proof boots and both were excellant but I had to return the Dainese as the rubber was ever so slightly peeling away after 3 mths so I changed them for alpinestars goretex and they work a treat.

That's what I'm saying, those tcx aren't goretex, they are only waterproof boots so don't go expecting them to keep your feet dry after a 5 hour ride through torrential rain. If you want goretex boots they're going to cost more as you are paying for the 'goretex' lining/name

I have the TCX X-cube waterproof boots and while they're not goretex (I also have the TCX Infinity Goretex Boots), they are 100% waterproof and warm and they have been tested in the worst weather and never let a drop through.

Haha that’s kinda strange. The boots have the “Waterproof” tag on them – they should be waterproof – i watched a few video reviews on youtube of tcx stuff. They may not be "Goretex" but they are a different version of a similar material. Strange of Simon to Under sell them. How much did you pay for them in cotters?

    Have a look at these

If you can afford to get a race boot get it, the protection on them is fabulous. I got the Alpinestars SMX Plus Goretex boot, obviously I dont race but I wanted the protection it offered and the difference in these and a normal boot is staggering. Yes they were exspensive but well worth it for what you get....

Are they not less comfortable though, and more awkward to walk in etc? I've tried some boots and walking more than a few steps is a pain, its like you've got forrest gump style braces on your legs.
As in the second link I posted above the guy says that unless you are actually using them for racing them may be overkill. I think the TCX SS Sport Waterproof ones look perfect for what I need :)

The boots I have are very comfortable. It helps that they are adjustable at the calf with the wratchet system and have an inner soft boot to aid comfort, and the link system from the ankle to the shin adjusts as you walk so you are not locked in the one position like you would be in the race position on a bike. They do not leave your foot like say a set of racing 1 piece leathers hunched into a certain position.

I had them on from 8am to 7pm on sat. while I was out and about and you actually forget you are wearing them. Leppla bought a pair also on my recommendation and he loves them too.
