Hmm, in a pet shop with no socialisation, sold on, then to be dumped because new owners can't handle an animal that received the improper handling/training needed up until 12wks old!!

Is it only me or is it a ridiculous cycle that is being repeated. I know we're not the only country with these issues, but it has to be brought into the Animal Health and Welfare Bill somehow? The fact it's someone how up in the IKC is atrocious!!!! Talk about dropping the standard.

I brought it to the attention of LSPCA, and Fiona herself said she's had more dealings with them. She also said she knows they are having people breed pups for the shop, and all they receive before going on sale is "a wash and a worm". What concerns me is why a pup would need a wash before it's sold? If they were being kept correctly, would they not have been kept clean by mummy?

    I smell a dirty, farming rat :(

Update: the Facebook Page has received a few comments regarding the puppies and how disappointed people are with the situation. The staff have insisted that it's too bad about dogs in pounds and rescues, but just because they are selling puppies from the windows does not mean they will end up a statistic. Talk about ignorance. No vaccinations, no explaining to owners about the potential prey drive of such a cross breed, no neutering or veterinary information (and a pups first vet visit ain't cheap!) and no home check. I'd say we will be seeing them in Dundalk pound before long, if we don't see their offspring back in the windows first!

Did you both get the PM? The responses are great, maybe some action will be taken! Veterinary students in DkIT are circulating this and bringing it to the attention of lecturers also.

I did, just posted on it there about 15/20 mins ago on the video links. Shameful, it really does look like a front for a puppy farm.

    Flippin hell
I see from the website they're still selling pb pups.. Bichons, Shih Tsus, and ISDW is going to love this... Huskies

FoxyVixen, there were public submissions made to the Dept of Ag to assist with the formulation of the proposed Animal Welfare Bill, and you can be pretty sure the sale of pups from pet shops will have been addressed amongst these submission. At least, I know I brought it up in my submission!
I hope, if a new Animal Welfare Act is to come into being, that it mirrors the Scottish and other UK Acts pretty closely. They're not perfect, but they're a damn sight better than what we're battling here all the time.

There's more to this, I just know it deep down. All the litters recently seem to be part spaniel, and mixed with a JRT!! Imagine the amount of energy they'd have! Definitely not a mixed breed for the faint hearted! I know a girl who got two pups off them - collie/GSD crosses. Again, poor girl didn't have a clue what she was taking on and now she has two monstrosities that she is really struggling to train. Lovely things without question, but her and her boyfriend can't manage at all, and were given absolutely no warning about what they would be like fully grown. Now I know she should have done her research, but thats neither here nor there as far as the pet shop goes!

Checked the FB for the shop with the Huskies - which were posted in the run up to Christmas - and they've recently had Samoyeds, Cockers, JRTs as well :(.

can I have link too please

I really thought that the practice of selling pups from pet shops had died out. How naive am I?

Very shortly there will be articles re the first of the unwanted christmas pups coming into rescue (or have I missed them) wonder if one of your local media outlets would like to pick up the topic and do a bit of a local twist and mention the shop.

Hope the students do the rally .

    Done.

Just looking through their page, they sell kittens as well, just moggies like you could pick up in any rescue centre :( it's so wrong to be making money off of puppies and kittens like this when there are so many in immediate risk of death in pounds across the country

Unfortunately yes. There was a piece the other day, a large Dublin based rescue reported the largest number of surrender calls they have ever received in one day.

    Thanks for the link borderlinemeath

i didn't want to add any more pm requests to the thread so I just chanced a google search of the place. am I correct to assume I have the right place's web site? what I've found is a centre who's site has a revolving selection of pups for sale on it's home page!

    Absolutely galling stuff :(

Also just tried a Facebook search and found a Dundalk pet shop with huge amount of animals(many pedigree pups) but no comments or posts since before Christmas, and can't post on page? No posts objecting to sale of dogs either, wondering if I have right shop, can someone pm me please?

    <snip>

I don't think it's against the charter to name the shop. They have a public facebook page and website so I could be wrong, but doesn't that mean we are allowed to discuss?
