So I'm in the process to getting new head phone. the ones that go over the head for my birthday tomorrow. I have about 200 to spend.

I mainly listen to rock, but I listen to other music too.

My mother wants to get me beats but I'm not sure,

Don't get Beats, there's far better headphones for the money. Do you need them to be portable or will they only be used in the house?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004ZG9TMA should fit what you need.

The Ray D'arcy show on Today fm done a headphone test and Beats by Dr Dre Studio model came out on top on the Show/Science Gallery headphone test. That was between Bose, Beats and Sennheiser all around the same value.

I have these, I'd recommend them.

I paid about €165 for mine. Try to get the coiled cable if you can if you do go for them.

The Sennheiser HD25-1 II is highly regarded and within your price range too.

In that case maybe consider Grado SR80is, supposed to be really excellent with rock. They're open headphones so will leak sound a lot, which obviously makes them unsuitable for portable use but mightn't matter too much at home. They've got rave reviews on lots of sites.

The ATH-M50S is the straight cable version.

Well that's a load of shíte.

OP. M50s are excellent starters, I used to own them and still regret ever getting rid of them!

As also suggested the HD25s are also quite enjoyable.

You're onto a winner with either.
