Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I love bikes. I have several. I ride most days.

And even that still scares the bejaysus out of me.

    Love it !

The NW200 is one of the biggest sporting events in the country, they've got a bigger triangle than the UGP with higher top speeds on the long straights.

I'd say the vast majority of Irish people are familiar with road racing in some way or other, the majority of non-motorcyclists here would be very aware of who Joey Dunlop is for example.

There are so many people who have not got bikes or are not into bikes that love road racing and go to see it. Most people visit the Skerries races no matter what, hail or shine.

I was gonna say I went to the skerries races a few years back when I had no interest in motorbikes at all. Didnt really appreciate! By god I cant wait to get back now =D

Fact is that probably 90% of the population have or know someone who has or had a bike, theres always a story be it good or bad....i know bikers who have no interest in road racing, and some have no interest in bikes at all but use one for commuting/job...
I've never been to the IOM...............:o

I too would absolutely love to get over to the IOM this year but it aint gonna happen now....I should really be booking the thing for next year! But I have been to every road race last year north and south and the year before in the south as I had no pinkie to get up north.

Yep, you really wanna be booking now for next year. Its a shame only steamRACKET ferries are the sole carrier they ramp the prices up for the TT event BIG TIME!

Savage. I'd love to do a road race, but I'll have to do a few years of short circuits first.

Reading this weeks MCN it looks like national road racing is on its last legs. Insurance costs are sky rocketing, which will hugely increase admission therefore reducing spectators, and with 2 of the best retiring its going to be a bigger struggle to make ends meet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,211 ✭✭✭Thinkingaboutit

I think there are moves in the opposite direction, which would make it far easier in Britain. I vaguely recall something on that. Anyhow MCN always take the most sensationalist line on anything.

The are trying to pass a law that allows racing on the roads in the England, seeing as they all come over here to watch the road racing. But they'll have the same insurance problems as the Irish are having.

I've been going road racing for years. The cost of entrance to the races has gone for zero to €10 a while ago to €20+ now, similar in £s, then you have to pay extra to get the good viewing spots. The riders are still getting sod all for winning so the cost of entrance is going to insurance. If the insurance costs are going up the admission price will increase, which creates the vicious circle of less people going so the cost of admission has to go up again.

It used to have decent reviews, despite the UK bike always winning it was easy to know what bike was the best, and sport coverage,, but I'm finding less interesting stuff in it now. What other weekly is any good though?

I don't recall it ever having a credible review and always found it to be revenue biast, sport coverage is generally good though again they have their obvious faves there too. TBH their sensationalist BS just put me right off and the more I read it the more I realised they hadn't a clue what they were commenting on. I prefer the mags or the net.
