hi, can you tell me where the pay as you go Meters are installed in an apartment block? are they installed on top of the existing meter in a communal area of the block, or are they installed inside the apartment?

    thanks & regards.

    Hi artful_codger,

They would be installed inside the apartment, if at all. Generally we don't install keypad/pay-as-you-go meters in apartment blocks due to the potential problems a customer could encounter; the main ESB meters tend to be located together in a switchroom in such cases, and the keypad meters need to be wirelessly connected to them at all times. If this connection ever fails, as in the case of a power outage, a customer would need access to the main meter, and around-the-clock access to switchrooms we know isn't always possible for residents.

For general information and frequently asked questions about electricity pay-as-you-go meters, see here.

    Regards,

    David
